I'm looking at a 88 10th anniversary RX-7 with 169k miles, but the engine was replaced at 100k miles, so about 70k miles on the rebuilt engine. He says, and I quote "I just put over $1000 into it, injectors, hoses, turbo.." The clutch and transmission are good, the stock exhaust has a leak at the manifold. He said the compression test results for the front rotor were 8.4, 8.3, and 8.7 and rear were 8.5,8.5,8.6..I don't know jack about the compression test results, is this good or bad? The cars stereo and speakers were stolen, anyone have a figure on replacing the speakers? I would want a good cd player anyway but the speakers I have no clue about. It has some chipping paint right above the drivers side marker as you can see in the picture I will include. What do you think its worth? I'm not going to say yet what he is selling it for, what would you pay for it?

Compression is in the ok-to-good range I beleive. Thats a lot of miles, 2k tops...

i would be worried about that paint, those cars have a tendency for

the paint to come flying off in sheets

the speakers are the LEAST of your concerns when buying one

of those cars. Dont take this the wrong way, but if the speakers

are all you worried about, dont buy it.

Hadoken 01-20-2004 09:35 PM

The speakers aren't my worry at all, except if I could use them as a bargaining chip to drive the price down. The guy that owns it apparently runs this site www.rx7world.com , I don't know if anyone has any experience with him, but since he runs a RX-7 site, you would think the car would be in better shape https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

id have to agree - i just recently went thru a huge project of building up a pretty basic bare bone tII back to more then stock condition - **** loads of stuff to worry about, and the least of your worries should be how good your system sounds

as a friend on here told me "without the right parts your cars gonna end up just being a garage queen" so with that being said, check your priorities out ok man? later.

T.c.

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.png Apparently you were writing that while I was posting my previous topic...I'm just trying to get the car as cheap as possible, maybe that way I'll have enough money to fix that chipping paint, and whatever else may need to be repaired. I'll probably just buy a 240sx since everyone on here makes it sound like you have to be a millionaire to afford a FC https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/ohmy.png

I've seen it happen to a friend who was washing his 10AE with a power washer.

Not a pretty sight.

Not just for info about this car, but if I ever look at a RX-7 and decide to get a compression test for it at the Mazda dealership how much does one cost? Just a approximation? And what numbers are bad/good/great? Any other guys have a estimate on what this RX-7 is worth? He's selling it for $3500, so is it worth it?

I think thats good compression, to do a comp test it prolly like $60. Drive the car to see if the diff and tranny is quiet. Make sure it shifts well. Check the underbody near the differential for leaking gear oil. Start it cold to see how it sounds, while its somewhat cold take off a radiator cap to check for bubbles, rev it to 4-5k you should see no bubbles. if it all checks out, i would offer a max of $2500 only cause of the miles. If it had lower miles it would be worth about $4000. Thats a 10th ae its a pretty rare car.

looks clean, these cars are getting old so there will be some wear and tear no matter how good the owner keeps up with them

I'd pay 3k

Rob x-7 01-21-2004 08:14 PM

if it was me selling the car I wouldnt go down at all

because of the speakers. If it had the stock shitty

speakers would you say "i want you to knock the price

down $200 because the speakers are original and

I want new ones"

the car is a 1988, if I bought it I would EXPECT to have

to change the speakers.

with that being said, and without actually seeing the car in person,

I would say to offer him about $2500 if you really want it.

if you dont really want it offer him $2000, the worse that happens

is he says no.
