Im looking to buy an rx7, but after reading stuff on this site, im torn between the fd and the turbo II https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif . Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

Apex13B 03-23-2003 12:24 PM

turbo II (FC) = lower insurance, it comes single turbo, and that cool "80's retro styling", they seem easy to work on for me, i like the blistered fenders that the 2nd gen cars have, japanese muscle car

3rd gen (FD) = body of a supermodel, looks like its doing 140mph sitting still, lots of vacuum lines, sequntial(sp) twin turbos seem very complex. some simple mods and they are OSOFAST!

ill take a second gen any day https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683329.gif

if its your only car, a FC might be better suited, or keep the 3rd gen stock.

If you have to put all your money toward paying off a FD and the high insurance that goes with it I wouldnt get one if I were you. Call your insurance company first and ask them, they may make your mind up for you if you get slapped with a high premium.

If you are very big or tall, you can fit better in a FC and FD https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

I literally cannot even get into a FD

Depends on yourself, I myself would take either. I love my FC because im the only person i know with a 91 TII. And when i blow by people they have no idea what just flew by (goes with about any rx7 though). But I find the fc real easy to work on, like was said before, its already single turbo. With a couple mods, FC TII's can be VERY fast too. But to tell you the truth, at first i didnt like the fc, even when i had my fb. I was planning on buying a 3rd gen, and i started my search for one. Found a couple that I looked at ... they all wanted too much. Then i went to my friends shop around here and he was working on a 3rd gen, i hung around for a bit checking it all out and what-not. Found out i really didnt like the crapped ass twin-turbo setup they had. They are a bitch to work on and they have a tendency to explode. Then i started my search for my FC .. looked for about 4 months before i found the EXACT car i was looking for. I payed 6k for it ... and with about 2k (or less) in mods, i've beaten many FD. But dont get me wrong, i love the FD's ... LOOOOVE the FDs https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif

Nothing cooler than seeing an FD blow by you on a curve mountain road racing at 120+ mph. Beautiful!!

(can you tell thats happend to me before? :-p )

it basically comes down to if you got enough loot.

My Turbo II is a toy--it's not my daily driver. And if you're like me, $15k is too much to spend on a toy, so that pretty much rules out the FD. Find a nice Turbo II however, and it's playtime!

I absolutly LOVE the 3rd genertion Mazda Rx-7. But... when it comes to form and ultimate style... i will have to stick with the 2nd generation. i think there is nothing better than running a sick ass (80's) style sports car down to the local car show... and people just drop their jaw..

granted the 3rd gen gets that too. But there's just something about Old school, that i give in too

Come on now.. who doesnt love a good old AE86 now and than. can we say Drifter....

HEY! Rx-7's can drift too!!! "Yes little Devil, i know... We know"

75 Repu 03-23-2003 09:08 PM

Yes Hachirokus are nice.. I love old 80's cars.. Celicas, supras, Impulses.. Starions.. Yeah baby.. All rear wheel drive..

I want an FD too but I am young and insurance would be too expensive so I am probably going to get an FC first till I can pay for an FD cash.

relisys190 03-23-2003 09:13 PM

Wires and dust huh. LoL, i love it. Yeah i mean who doesnt love an FD. But having my car for more than 2 years... i could never get rid of it. "She's gunna kill us"

My friend once said that as we spun on the highway after hitting a puddle of water at 90 mph

we spun in a strait line. it was the most exhilerating thing of my life..

Ahhh. I remember it well. "dude, almost 100"--Mike "yup"-Me "Holy ****!"--Mike "She's gunna kill us"--Mike

We came out of it Alive.. and till this day i will not own any other type of car.. but the Mazda Rx-7.

relisys190 03-23-2003 09:19 PM

"She" Being the car.. of course.

rx7machine 03-23-2003 09:41 PM

I love them both. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683894.gif But like someone said above, a FD will cost you more and is a tad more complicated.. if this is going to be your only car, I say just stick with a FC.

There are alot of variables to consider when buying a car. Money, function and longevity being some of the biggest factors to consider. Money is self explanatory but as far as longevity you got to really see what you will be doing with the car say ... from the time you buy the car until say 3-5 years from that point. Since you've been looking for a RX7 I would assume the function of the car would be to drive "fast" https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif and that requires money no matter what car you have. Styling depends on personal opinion but function depends on personal situation (Money). If money isn't the issue then the world is yours ... me personally I chose the TII because I love the styling, my budget only allows for a TII (Rather own then finance/lease), and I knew I would stick with the car for awhile.
