Racing Beat header and presilencer came in today. Slightly used but look to be in good shape. About to go install them. I'm excited like a kid in a candy store!

Hey I was wondering if the streetable RB header has the O2 sensor bung in it? I have the presilencer and pipe combo... was thinking of getting the header instead.

vosko 03-26-2003 12:16 PM

it does

Silver Ninety Three 03-26-2003 12:29 PM

The header has a o2 bung. You can kinda see it its near the bottom where the two pipes meet. About to go install it!

relisys190 03-26-2003 12:48 PM

let us know how everything goes man.. thats the pipe combo i want to get. Tell me any info i need... to install. and give me some insight on seat of the pants performance gains.. (if any)

Thanks. Markus

I love my RB header. I didnt get the presilencer with it though because I wanted to attempt to stay emissions legal. But anyway the header made my car sound great and definetly increased power in the upper rpms.

Rotaryman88 03-26-2003 05:08 PM

Enough of this "about" stuff...go install it,lol..ur starting to sound like me!

wopa20 03-26-2003 07:30 PM

hey, i have the rb pipe and presilencer combo, but I was thinking about going with the headers, are they much louder? What about performance gains? Is it worth it?

Silver Ninety Three 03-26-2003 07:32 PM

Installed. Took me about 3 1/2 hours because of some "issues" The stock heat shielding around the manifold was a bitch to take off. All the little screws were rusted and siezed. I used a vice grip to grab the shielding and bent it up and down untill I broke it off piece by piece. There was some sort of white insulation on the inside of the heat shield that was crumbling all over. Hope is wasn't asbestos. I was carefull and tried not to touch it, and put it in a plastic garbage bag right away. Everything else came out pretty easily. I used pb blaster to help free up the nuts and bolts. Had to use a pipe over the wrench to get enough leverage but nothing stripped or broke. The main problem I encountered was the guy who had the presilencer before me stripped one of the studs and nuts that connect to the header. At first I thought it was just the nut so I got another one, and it seamed to thread on ok, but then got stuck. I had to use a ton of force to get the nut off and broke the stud. Luckily there was still enough stuff left to get a nut on, but it didn't want to thread. I took some nut I had laying around and hammered it onto the stud. When I turned it with a wrench it started threading. I wanted to replace the stud but then I'd have to take the header and presilencer off, because it was a tight fit. Other than that I had no problems. I also yanked the airpump and acv, and freed one of the 6 port actuators that appeared to be sticking. As for the test drive, the car definately feels faster, especially on the top end. It now pulls all the way to redline with no noticable drop off in power like it did when stock. The only problem is that its loud as ****! Its kinda amusing when I rev it out, but I don't like sounding like a ricer. It will have to do for now, untill I can save up money for a catback.

The stock exhaust manifold looked like a piece of junk in my opinion. Looks like the header would easily flow better.

wopa20 03-26-2003 07:39 PM

ya but the noise factor is what concerns me, How loud is it? Mustang straight pipe like?

Are people just spooking me out?

Geoffman72 03-26-2003 07:41 PM

Post up a recording of it for us! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

wopa20 03-26-2003 07:42 PM

that would be sweet

Apex13B 03-26-2003 08:11 PM

would that work with a high-flow cat?

Silver Ninety Three 03-26-2003 08:19 PM

Its not THAT loud. Just sounds kind of ricey. It really neads a better catback.

A header is a must for any rotary, imo. And then compliment it w/ a catback sys. Just find your midnight muffler shop to fab a high flow to bolt in when you need to renew your tags(emissions test).

Racing beat is too quiet and expensive in my opinion. I'm eyeing the corksport single $295, and the RP dual $395. I would really like to keep the dual setup mainly for looks.

I have the RP dual... It sounds good, no rice but you have a header and I have the RB pipe... I ordered the Corksport too last week since I wanted stainless on the one car and need to swap the RP to my other which has a rotting stock exhaust.

You can save $100 by just getting the Dynomax catback from Summit for $295. Its the same thing as the RP (I've had both). The RP is just painted black.

Baldy 03-27-2003 12:17 PM

I also noticed, while holding both the stock setup and the rb setup, that the rb was much lighter. Also, I think the header dissipates heat much quicker. While doing something under the hood, I noticed the header was cool to the touch, but my transmission was still quite warm.

As for the head shields, I got those off when I had my UIM and LIM off. That's about the only time in my life I really thought ahead.

Glad to hear you like it!

corksport catback on NA with header and presilencer = getting to know po po on first name basis. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

Silver Ninety Three 03-27-2003 05:13 PM

My friend has an apex gt with the same setup. Its loud, but not that loud. Sounds alot deeper and nicer than mine.

ouch, I don't want any rice sound... I dont care how loud it is on that car as long as its not chainsaw rice sound if you know what I mean.... I searched this and other forums for peoples opinions on the CS sound and got mixed reviews. Also, I don't know how much louder a header/presilencer is vs. a stock exhaust man with RB pipe/presilencer combo. I dont see how the stock exhaust man could quiet it down that much compared to the header except for the flow difference. According to RB, the power diff is barely any.

Silver Ninety Three 03-27-2003 05:33 PM

I read about the pb pipe/presilencer combo, but I wanted to get rid of all the stock crap. The stock exhaust manifold seams to be a heat exchanger designed for quick licght off of the cats, no performance. If you want a nice sounding exhaust, make sure you get a quality catback. I knew it wouldn't sound great with jsut te header and presilencer, and am planning on a catback in the future. I just couldn't stand the exhaust leaks I had and lack of power.

relisys190 03-27-2003 05:37 PM

Even only having an intake, bonez race pipe, and borla cat backs i LOVE the way my car sounds

down low (below 4k sounds real deep and mean)

i hit in the upper 5's and mid 6 range and the damn thing sounds well. sounds almost like an indy

it's got a real high pitch growl to it. Absolutly perfect... Hopefully with headers, it will sound even meaner. and have more high end grunt to the back wheels

good point, I just can't justify spending over $500 on just a cat back for an S4 NA.... even though I've dumped so much money into them total.... I dont know, my logic is all fucked up.

while we are on topic of headers listen to this. there is a dude here in town who bought a 87na he repainted it nice paint job. but the interior looks like ****. put a loud ass exhaust on there. and he said he put a DC sports header. WHAT A CROCK OF ****!!!!!!!! i told him DC dose not make parts for rotary they make parts for hondas, and he disagreed with me saying that they are the only ones that make headers for our cars. jackass. i felt like smacking him now he is selling that car but he is asking like 8k for it because of the paint job. the interior looks like ****, has 143k on the car, and a DC header https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif what a jackass. thought someone might think its funny. lol
