Hey all! Soooooooo, YES, FINALLY, I am the owner of a 1990 TurboII!!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png The car's amazing, only 43,000 on the clock! Flawless condition, it's been a show car its entire life and has never been raced! The only bad thing about it is, it's 2000 miles away from me =P So I am going to drive it back. My question, how much distance at a time would be smart to cover before I take a break and let the turbos cool off, take a nap, etc. etc. Has anybody else driven long distances like this with their Rex? Did they have any problems? Looking forward to responses, I maybe leaving as soon as wednesday to grab this car!! Thanks!!

P.S. Does anyone have any shipping companies they might recommend? If I can ship the car for 600-800 bucks, I'll do that instead to save wear and tear on the car. The car's in memphis, TN and I'm shipping it to Sacramento, CA

vosko 01-29-2002 12:06 AM

erik drove his T2 1500 miles when he bought it i think. if you are confident in the car i would drive it. i would drive like 5-6 hours then take a break.

props on the car. if you dont mind me askin...how much u get it for?

turborotor 01-29-2002 12:25 PM

As long as you get fresh air and nothing leaks, keep driving it still the gas tanks goes to empty, Fill it up and keep going. if you are easy on th egas you should at least get 250 miles per tank ful or more. I got 24mpg on my FC covering 1100 miles.

The turbos don't heat up hard till you start boosting, you can keep off doing that if you can.

I got the car for 10,000. Which is pretty damned pricey if you ask me. But I had the following factors to work in as well:

-The car is 11 years old, but is in flawless condition. It's been a show car its entire life.

-It's never been raced, dragged, etc.

-No engine modifications save for an HKS intake

-43,000 miles on the clock! Yippee!

-I've been looking for about 3 months, and I want a car now!

I put some temporary pics up at

http://www.geocities.com/cullyucsc/My_FC_Page.html

nothing fancy, the car ships next monday, as soon as I get it I'll put up some real pics. The hardest part is going to be waiting for it to get here!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif but at least the shipping company I'm using has satellite tracking(ooh, nifty buzzword!)!!

PIMP car!!! im so ****** jealous!!! holy ****.

the only thing i dont like is the red interior parts, and the rims, but jesus 42k miles...MAD PROPS!@!!!!

vosko 01-31-2002 09:24 PM

car looks good. should be real nice https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Erik 02-02-2002 11:05 PM

yes, like vosko said i drove my T2 a LONG ******* way to get it home. i drove 15 hours to wisconsin to get it...and 15 hours home. right after each other. to say the least i was grumpy as hell afterwards. i kinda had a bad experience cause the TPS went bad and teh car sucked ass the way home. so that kinda put a damper on my already tired ass drive. but, i eventually made it home...slapped in a new TPS, and the car is great again...

i've taken my 91 n/a on exactly 20! 7 hour drives. this has been back and forth to college the past 3 years form NJ to VA. never had a problem once. that car is amazing.

if you are brave enough drive it back, although 2000 miles IS a long way. and after a while COFFEE WILL NOT WORK ANYMORE! lol. i was literally slapping, pinching, and screaming at myself to stay awake driving my T2 back.

not trying to scare you off, but DEFINATELY stay over at least one night. and if you feel you're starting to doze off, pull over in a rest stop asap https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png hehe. congrats on the purchase...looks like a nice car, let us know how it turns out!

Erik 02-02-2002 11:11 PM

opps...my bad...didn't read that you decided to ship it! haha...ignore my last post, hehe

He sent me an Email later, and I told him, but just in case anyone else is intereted....

HKS Super Mega Flow Intake, HKS T-1 Turbo Timer, HKS FCD(fuel cut defender), ACT Stage2 Street Clutch, Intrax 1.75" Lower Springs, Tokico Illumina adjustable Shocks, Brand New TPS(Throttle Position Sensor), Napolex Intercooler Temp/Voltage Meter, AutoMeter Air/Fuel ratio gage, AutoMeter 35psi Boost gage, 2 1/16 Dual Pod, APC Fire Extinguisher, Napolex Broadway Wide View Mirror, Ichibahn Top Series Shift Knob(red), Ichibahn Power Series Brake handle(red), Ichibahn Strip Series Pedals(red), Ichibahn Strip Series Dead Pedal(red), Nokya polish/aluminum Dead Pedal, Ichibahn Tour Series Steering Wheel(red), Ichibahn Seat Belt Covers(red), Ichibahn Door Tabs(Brushed Aluminum), Tenzo R Tunner Wiper Blades(silver), Cuzo 2004 Hyper White Fog Lights, 17" Lexus IS300 Wheels w/Dunlop, 215/45zr/17(75% tread left), Customized Tail Lights, Front Lip spoiler, Racing Seat Cover for protect the original seats.

Obviously some of this has GOT to go... I despise fire extinguishers publicly displayed in windows, and I'm putting in some decent bucket seats with a 4 point harness for starters. Then comes the mandatory(And obnoxiously loud) blow off valve(haha, I'm running boost and your noooot!). And after that, some real mods, like ECU, single tailpipe conversion, FMIC, etc etc till I get to the bigger turbo. Oh yeah, a white paint job! Man these cars look classy in white! My goal is 350 hp, not for dragging, but for racing. And since the car is so nice, I may end up showing it up here in NorCal. I'll keep everybody posted.

Changing the color to white will be ALOT of work.

I know :(

I've been referred to www.bodypros.com in SoCal, but it's not gonna be cheap... oh well, maybe I can use all the money I saved by buying an 11 year old car... oh wait, damn!

To do the FULL job most shops would probably charge you something in the neighborhood of $8K+. I've done it myself, but it took a while. Now I could probably do it alot faster. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...

MtnRacer 02-03-2002 08:08 PM

8k?? Seems a little high... I was thinking more in the neighborhood of 2-3k... What are you factoring in that I'm not that's so expensive? I realize that removing vital components to get to the engine bay is time consuming... But 8k? lol, oh well... I await the response of someone far more educated than I! =P

A GOOD same color paint job with minor disassembly usually costs $2-3K. To change a color correctly you have to take everything out of the engine bay and interior. Most of the money involved is for labor. You may be able to get it done for $6K, but that's pushing it.
