I was wondering for those of you that have purchased Light Weight Flywheels, where did you get them from? I know that Racing Beat has them and I was thinking of getting it from them, but wanted other opinions first. Also, if you installed them yourself, how hard was the operation to do? I am mechanically inclined, and my father and brother are able to help me as well. Please put your input in. Thanks.

I have the 12lb flywheel from RB for my turbo conversion, brand new in the box, have not installed it yet.



I hear good things about it as it seems to be a nice weight for the street.



Its not hard to install as long as you can remove the exaust, and transmission, might want to consider changing the clutch while you are at it.

both a buddy and i used the lightweight steel flywheel from rb, both of us burnt up new clutches( mine was a centerforce dual friction, his was a rb street strip) within 500 miles. we found the problem by looking at the mounting surface of the stock flywheel and the rd one. found a .050 variance wich ment we never got proper grabbing force to the clutch. now i am useing a ACT prolight n like it but i did have to modify my slave by grinding off 3/8" off the rod lenght to proprly mount the slave. other then that they both worked really well once the machining errors where discovered.

I was going to do the clutch and the Flywheel at the same time, along with a tranny and rear end flush and put in synthetics. Did you guys need any special tools to do the Flywheel swap, or can I just use the tools at my house? I have a vast array of tools here, so I wont have a huge problem getting everything dne that does not require a special tool, if any. Thanks again.

Only need a 54mm or 2 1/8" socket.

I have had no real problem with day to day driving with my 8lbs flywheel. I don't know what the big deal is. My girlfriend drives my car better with the lighter flywheel. Get a timing gear puller from advanded auto to pull the flywheel off. Mazdatrix has the same flywheel that I have. Its a fidanza.

That's the first I've heard of the RB problem with clearance. I know the 17lbs steel ones are pretty good..never used the 12lb one.



I've used a Fidanza 9.5 in a miata that was pretty decent..used w/ an act street/strip clutch w/out problems.. just took a little bit more getting used to on steeper inclines & traffic.



The ACT ones have good reviews, but i never used one..I believe they are reasonably priced as well...

Yup, the 12 lb is actually an 8 lb if you weigh it like every one else. Mazdatrix and RB include the weight of the counterwieght..

thats a heavy counter weight. mine was around 2lbs. But it is about preference.
