ok i parked my car because i was leaving for a week, i was low on gas, i turned the car off by killing the fule pump(i have a switch installed) i got back it wouldent start. its getting gas to the engine, i pulled the bottom plugs out and both rotors make 3 swoosh noises. it just cranks over and sounds like its not even trying to start. ohh yeah it got to like -14 when i was gone if that would do something.

thanks

i had a friend come over and see if it has spark, and it does, well im off to advanced auto to get some spark plugs.....ive herd thats a reason why they wont start some times. give me some more ideas.

thanks

k new plugs in, and it still doesent start....... ok so it got really cold, what could happen?

joker90p 12-12-2005 09:39 PM

leaky injectors? that was the problem with mine.

ryderx 12-12-2005 10:02 PM

wouldent it still start if the injectors were leaky? it just turns over, and it doesent even sound like it wants to start, like theres no spark but there is

jefraney 12-12-2005 10:17 PM

If its flooded, it will not start. But, if you killed the car by letting the fuel run out, there shouldnt be any fuel in the lines, so it shouldnt have flooded.

If its getting spark and not firing, is it getting fuel?

ryderx 12-12-2005 11:50 PM

i pulled the hose off where goes from rubber tubing to metal and it disappears somewhere in to the engine, and there is fuel there..... and the other spark plugs i pulled out were wet so its got to be getting fuel, and ive tried unflooding it many times, with no success

jefraney 12-13-2005 12:02 AM

Just for grins, hook up a timing lamp to see if the timing is jumping.

And if you can, do a compressoin test. Just because you hear the swooshes, it doesnt mean that it has compression. My old engine had nice strong "swooshes", but only pulled a 20-20-15 on the compression test.

ryderx 12-13-2005 12:16 AM

alright ill try that, but what i don’t get is it was running perfect when I turned it off, and the only different thing that happened was it was parked for a week with out running and it got -14degrees

ryderx 12-14-2005 06:50 PM

I could not get my hands on something to check the compression. But I was talking to my dad’s friend who is a Mechanic, and he told me to try too pull start it, so I did. The car started up and idled rough, puffed out white smoke for a min or so, then I took it up the road and back. It ran normal…..when I got home I turned it off, and it started right back up!!! Im so happy to have my car back!

Thanks for the help

Rx-7's drain the batteries for some reason, so after I start it up for the first time in a week, I usually put a charger on it, this way it's turning over as fast as it can, I don't know how many times my N/A flooded because of a weak battery.

stop and think how that could be true at all. that would mean every rx7 off the dealership lot had to be charged if the customer didn't drive it for a few days.

teknics 12-20-2005 05:42 AM

somebody has a parasitic draw on there electrical system.

nismo bust out the test light and with your car off see if you got a draw from your battery.

Yeah I've done that before, about 14.3V with nothing on, and thats with a brand new battery.

thats not a draw, thats your battery voltage....actually 14.3V without the car on is odd, thats more like alternator voltage.

Take the negative terminal off the battery, get a test light, connect test light to ground terminal of battery then use the pointy part and touch the disconnected negative terminal.

if it lights up you have a parasitic draw... which is something not turning off when you turn off your car. most commonly it is fuel pump ****, glovebox lights, bla bla bla, random circuits sometimes put a constant load on your car so when you turn it off it still slowly drains your battery. its tricky to diagnose. the test light method is the quickest/easiest way to find out you have some kind of draw....some cars do have some draws (which turn off after a minute or two) such as the lclock and ****..i dont think fc's do tho.

FikseRxSeven 12-20-2005 07:37 PM

ah lovely white smoke when it started

you know that worried me before til we were in an rx7 meet in 30 degree whether and every single car was smoking like hell

HAH, really? so what was the fix because none of mine have drains?

Rob x-7 12-21-2005 09:31 AM

every once in a while you can come out to a car that wont start, it will sound like it has no compression.

It can happen when you go into a store and come out, doesnt mean there is a drain on the electrical system and it doesnt mean you have leaky injectors, it just happens

One320B 12-21-2005 10:36 AM

Lol, I was slow on the response to this one...I would have said to pull start it right off the bat... I had to start my '88 like that once, and did that to a few different first gens..it's nice when it works out like this did, congrats.
