Ok heres my story,



Way back my dad got this rx7 (89 GXL n/a).. the body was totally mint but needed an engine.. so he got a new rebuilt one for it.. then he got really sick (cancer) and gave the car to me... i was 19 at the time and couldn't afford to insure it myself.. when my father passed away i had to put the car into storage, and its been there ever since. I recently just bought a house with a garage and had it towed (flatbed) there. Upon taking it out of the storage place i gasped when i uncovered it cause it is still in pristine condition (to the naked eye anyway).. we had to push it up to the road to get towed.. nothing was seized everything still looks brand new under the hood (again this is just on opening the hood and looking, not dismantling anything).



I would love WAAAY to much to get this car back on the road cause it not only is incredibly fun to drive but its also very sentimental for me, but i'm not sure where to begin or what exactly to tackle first. ANY input would be super appreciated!!

yah the rebuilt engine was put in by my dad about 6 years ago.. he drove it for a while.. then i drove it for a little bit before it went into storage.. i'd say the new engine has about 5 or 6000 Kms on it

anyone else got any suggestions?



should i just swap all the fluids.. check for nests and see if she'll fire up? would the apex seals still be alright after sitting for that long? (i seem to recall seeing somewhere that they degrade over time if not in use)

Spray some fogging oil in the spark plug holes, pull the EGI COMP fuse, and turn it over for about 15 seconds, I would swap all the fluids yes, this includes the fuel in the tank; luckily the tank has a drain plug on the bottom. Change the fuel filter, change the oil, drain the oil cooler as well, the brake fluid should be changed too. I think if you do that you should be ok.

Alrighty, change oil and filter, drain all old gas and change fuel filter, drain rad, change antifreeze/water mix, check for nests and potential problems. After that, check compression (with a gauge of course), maybe add a bit of oil into the housing, check spark strength (with a spark checker), if blueish-white your good to go, the more white it is the better, if its orange check all your ignition wiring for frays or potential problems. Now, get yourself some gas fill er up n go.



Keep in mind, your compression readings should be balanced. IF not you'd have a bad apex seal, but thats a rebuilt motor you should be fine. Oh and one more thing, adjust accordingly for temperature...since right now its fairly hot you should be fine...assuming your in Canada cause you use Kms. If it is a cold day, make sure you have a good battery with enough cold crankin' amps to get the job done, also put a bit of oil into the engine to promote easier starting.



Also if it wont start just keep in mind: compression, spark, fuel. If one fails it wont start, check those 3 if you have problems.
