Welcome aboard! You'll pick up on driving a manual pretty quick, just don't try any fancy shifting till you get used to it. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

As for tips, change your oil and check it on a VERY regular basis.

Performance wise, 1st thing is an exhaust, 2nd would be a free flowing intake. There's tons of speed freaks running around here so https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

im from nanaimo BC canada , i konw how to drive and **** i just wanna be able to race without killing myself

that is an oxymoron, if I were a consciencious person, I would tell you that the best way to race is on a track, but that is a big if, mainly, don't try and get stupid in traffic, that is, don't bust ass trying to weave through traffic to get to a stop light to race someone, and make sure you have a clear lane when the light turns green, people in FL especially have a problem with running an intersection 3 seconds after the light turns red on them,. The easiest way to sum it up is this: watch the people driving souped up Hondas, and do every thing the opposite, this goes for driving tactics (don't try and race in heavy traffic) posture, (don't slouch so your head doesn't clear the wheel, with your seat reclined all the way and one hand slung over the wheel, and the other on the AUTO tranny gear selector) basically, be safe, and pay attention, and get a 6th sense for cops, that is very helpful. (if you are racing me, and see me slam on the brakes, it is prolly a good idea to do the same thing.)

Im 17 with an 86 GXL as well, but instead of worrying about mods, Im bringing mine up to original, its great fun, looks good, and i wont kill myself, you just dont worry about all those guys that say **** about your car...etc there is always going to be people like that, you just have to have something that makes you happy!

Your the proud owner of a 7, with mods or not, you still own a sweet piece of machinery!

Rotaryman88 07-07-2002 10:34 AM

Hey serpent12, your sig says '86 GTX LTD...whats that? I thought you had a GXL? I'm confused, lol...not to mention, and '86 would be a GTR, not a GTX https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

if you want to race you should prob get a short shifter.
