Was the aftermarket hood aluminum?
< Hellllllll no, it is steel, you cant tell the difference until you go to lift it, lol. Thats why I want to swap out hoods with the other car :sigh:

That's what I figured. The price sounded a little low for aluminum.

Wow, thanks for all the advice and support guys. really appreciate it.

I'll have some more questions soon enough.

foopy 04-06-2002 11:22 PM

Currently on my Rex.

Racing Beat exhaust header

Racing Beat Y pipe and mufflers

K&N style air intake

Summit Electric Racing Fan

Futura Sport series tires

i got a presilencer and a aluminum fly wheel too, but i gotta install those https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/angry.png they just in my garage collecting dust now. :frown:

wut components (cheap) can i add to improve performance? i figure a few HP here and there can add up, if i cant just drop a turbo in.

thanks again gentlemen. :sleepgo:  :newlaugh:

Go for the under-drive pulleys, those help. Also you can change the gear ratio in the rear end to a 4.3 that will give you faster acceleration, but it will lower your top speed, but that doesn't matter too much with a car geared for 140 + mph. Also like other people said, you can get a headlight cover with an air intake molded in. The good thing about having a Rx7 is there is no shortage of performance parts.

Try checking out Mazdatrix.com, or Rx7.com (Rx7.com has good info on mods to do, but mazdatrix has lower prices https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub... )

thanks again. any other cheap components, that could help with HP increase? Im going to look into the underdrive pulleys, and changing my gear ratio.

oh, wut the hell is F.N.G. ?? when do i get to be "master of the rotary universe" ? hehe

1Revvin7 04-07-2002 08:29 PM

ah, well the name comes when u become a master. FNG= fu#$(* new guy, https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR welcome to the forum, what does your header bolt up? not cats right?

The advantage of turboing an NA motor is that the NA motor is higher compression and can easily run 11s(I've seen it) if done right.

i was under the impression thats why u don't want to just bolt a turbo on an n/a because of the high compression, and i've heard you can only run low amounts of boost or you will blow it. Doesn't it make sense that the turboIIs have lower compression engines, to resist knockin and blowin it?

yup lower compression = slightly easier to keep from detonating......

more Newbie questions:

1) Synthetic Oil? I heard its bad for rotary. What should I use instead?

2) 87 octane fuel? I heard that higher grade is WORSE for my rex?!? wouldnt 87 octane produce knocking?

3) Differential fluids and transmission fluids: do I need to change them? If yes, is there a high quality brand I should put in?

4) My shifter is very notchy! (freaking hard to find the gears sometimes!) someone told me about shifter 'bushing'???

5) I also her that if i dont push it that hard, the engine will start getting carbon build-up?!? does that mean i should drive it hard? I don't normally push my rex too hard, during regular street driving.

6) optimal driving speed/gear? lets say i want to cruise highway at about 70 mph. what rpm/gear should i be in?

7) Oh, BIG STOOPID QUESTION OF THE DAY: why is my car telling me to 'shift up' from 2nd to 3rd at 20 mph when im at 2.5k rpm?? but if i give it some gas and raise it to 4k rpm, it doesnt tell me to 'shift up' until about 30mph. same thing for 3rd to 4th. its tells me to go into 4th at 35mph if im at 2.5rpm. but if im at 4k rpm, it doesnt tell me till im at 45~50 mph. WUTS GOING ON!!! WHEN SHOULD I SHIFT!!! haha any suggestions?

8) can i be banned from the boards for asking mindnumbingly dumb questions such as the above 7?

thanks again guys!
