I see two other components in front of the radiator, that resemble cooling devices. What are they?

cymfc3s 03-12-2003 01:27 PM

one is probably the aux electric fan.

Baldy 03-12-2003 01:29 PM

it actually looks just like a small radiator...I didn't know there was another fan, I'll have to check that out

cymfc3s 03-12-2003 01:34 PM

thats the oil cooler. In between the 2 is the a/c condensor.

TYSON 03-12-2003 01:35 PM

A/C and Oil cooler? The power steering tubing makes a big 'S' in front of the radiator on an FD

cockblocked ya!!

Baldy 03-12-2003 01:43 PM

cool...I'm debating on whether or not I should hook back up the a/c

my parts car supposedly has a good compressor, and I know all my a/c controls work...what else is involved in getting it working, assuming I replace the compressor (the current one is frozen)?

I know this robs the engine of power, but it will get over 100 degrees this summer, no doubt

I vaguely remember a Mazda mechanic quoting me like $2- or $300 bucks...money...cold air...money....cold air...

pengaru 03-12-2003 03:06 PM

for me, I pulled the AC out for some weight savings and just keep the winows down in the summer and always have some bottled water in the car just in case.

Rob x-7 03-12-2003 08:08 PM

I had the AC converted and charged in the other vert for $150. Blows ice cold now

Im with you on this one, when its 100 degrees and hot and humid out, I know some of you have no humidity in your part of the world so you cant releate, that 5 horsepower and 20 pounds or so you lose will be well worth it!

Apex13B 03-12-2003 08:12 PM

i got orgainic air conditioning on my vert https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

charge up that AC..its worth the money

Baldy 03-13-2003 07:30 AM

I just hate arriving where I'm going with a sopping wet ass and wet streaks down my back...bad when you're wearing kakis and dress shirt (everyday).

a guy told me that if the compressor clutch spins, it's good...is that true? my parts car's compressor spins, but not the one on my running car (no belt)

1Revvin7 03-13-2003 07:59 AM

I never use a/c in any car. Just roll down the windows and open the sunroof...

I'll let you know, but I'm not sure when I'm gonna try to fix this

Rob x-7 03-13-2003 04:54 PM

When I got the AC refilled on my old GXL it cost just over $300 at jiffy lube. The system was dry no freon at all. My friend hooked it up for $50 bucks, though. I feel guilty drivning witht AC on in traffic especially b/c the engine as to work soo hard... poor thing. My car was black too so even though it blew out freezing air the car's temperature never seemed to really get low.
