About a week ago my car overheated for the first time, i only noticed because i lost the ability to accelerate as fast as usual. I took the car to a mechanic and they found a pinhole sized hole on the radiator which they then patched, they also said the polarity of the fan

was in reverse so they flipped it around. Everything was okay for another day, then the problem returned.

I took it to another mechanic they said there was a problem with the thermostat and they replaced it. This time the car was okay for another 3 days, then the problem returned again. The temp gauge when the car is not overheating is between C and the mid point, when it's overheating it rests between the mid point and the H. It is a 1986 series 4 RX7 with a series 5 turbo engine.

What next step should I take in trying to fix this. A new radiator perhaps?

replace the rad caps and water pump then if that fails then new rad and if it fails to fix after all that then you might need a new fan clutch

id be looking at the radiator, if you have already done the t-stat

i always go with cheapest to most expensive because why go with something expensive if its something cheap to fix

yes, but we know theese cars, the water pumps just leak externally. its not a BMW where the plastic impeller comes off or something

on the crx i had the water pump fins were all broken off and it didnt leak or anything then it just overheated one day and i never was able to figure it out so since then first thing i like to do is start replacing cooling system parts that arent going to break my bank account
