This past weekend I moved to a new place. We loaded up all our **** and I decided to drive the fc to the new place since noone else has driven it yet and I am familiar with it. I've never driven it more than 10 minutes or 3 miles at a time since I got it, due to the engine dying when warm. Well about half way to the new place I came to a red light and stopped. The car stayed running and ran solid all the way to the new apartment. I have tried this again and found that once the car gets completely warmed up it will stay running It's just keeping it running long enough to get warmed up thats the problem. Any suggestions on what to check or what could remedy this problem would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance. |

Before it's completely warmed up, will it stay running if you give it gas? Meaning, is it just an idle issue?
My friend has an '88 Turbo and he has low compression, so his car won't idle when it's cold. He has to rev it, and keep it that way for a few minutes until the seals warm up and expand, then it idles fine.

After I did the throttle body mod, my n/a won't idle until it's warmed up, and that's slightly less of an issue than low compression.
yeah, maybe the idle is set wrong? maybe the thermowax doesnt work? maybe the bac valve doesnt work right?
when I did my thorttle body mod my idel sucks after its warm and the warm up system shuts off.
have you set your TPS?
NORMALLY when you have low compression, it's more of an issue once the car is warmed up. I've had several with compression so low that it would only start when the car was completely cold. Once it warmed up.... you better not switch it off.
I think it's an idle issue myself. |
bac valve? tps?
