I bought an 1989 GTUs last year. Recently Ihave been looking at different intakes around the web. Does anyone have any suggestions on which one is better?

Since you have a series5 Rx7('89-'91). DON'T BUY ANY INTAKE over $100. Honestly. You can just go down to advance auto, or whatever, and buy a K&N cone filter w/ a 2.5" or so outlet to the MAF, and get a fastener for it. This will all cost about $50-$70. And then of course, there are cheaper filters then K&N..so it can be done for under $50.
Series 5 rx7s don't need a mounting bracket, so intake like Bonez, APEXi, HKS, etc...are just a waste of money. |
what he said---a waste of money!!!!

i got my cone filter from autozone for $20 https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683329.gif
they also sell adapters to fit an S4 AFM |
So the K&N cone filter gives as much hp as an Apexi or HKS intake?
|
Yea...
if you put the k&n and the apexi and the hks, etc on the dyno, they would all yield about the same HP..a difference of maybe 1hp or so between the two. The fact is that all those intakes(as well as just strapping a K&N filter onto the maf) all leave the filter in the same spot as each other, none of them try to move the filter to a colder location, remove bends, etc. About the only dif in the intakes would probably be throttle response, as a better flowing filter will make for better response. if you really want a good intake, just have some custom AL pipes bent, get some silicon couplers and relocate the filter to the spot in front of the radiator...lots of guys do that now, i think rx7aggie has done it himself.... |

The S4-S5 car needs brackets. you see the period at the end of that sentence?
The Apex'i Kit moves the filter away from the radiator, and all other hot stuff. you dont want your 600 dollar AFM flopping around do you? |
oh and PS
If you can buy it, dont make it |
The APEXi kit still sits where the stock airbox was.
PS...who the hell pays $600 for a NONturbo s5 AFM??? I bought a s5 TII one for $150.... |
