I was just wondering it the s5 intake manifold will bolt on to a s4 engine? If so will i have any clearance problems with the rats nest, or will I need some of the s5 wiring harness plugs? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

NOTE: All of my experience is in regard to a non-turbo motor. It may or may NOT be the same for a turbo motor.

To do it properly you really need an S5 engine harness (and thus the S5 ECU) and the S5 rats nest, injectors, etc.)

This is required if you want the 6port valves to open properly and the VDI system to work correctly (this is the main reason to upgrade to the S5 intake).

The only problem I have seen they phisycal fitment of an S5 intake on an S4 motor has to do with the rear side housing. On _some_ of the rear housings they have an extra tab of metal sticking out around the upper clutch/flywheel inspection plate. This will keep the S5 intake from sitting completely down on the motor. In my case it kept the middle intake from seating properly against the lower intake, causing a HUGE vaccum leak. Once I pulled the upper/middle intake off it was obvious on the lower intake gasket where it had not been sealed properly. Once I ground the extra tab off the motor the intake went back on with no problems and I finally had a decent idle.

As soon as I have the photos developed I think I got a good picture of the tab after I ground it off. I will post it here.

Is it possible to bolt the upper intake manifold from an s5 to a lower manifold from a s4?

On a turbo motor, the S5 UIM can be bolted to the LIM, but you'll need an adapter plate made by Feed ($$$$) OR some ppl have redrilled the holes so they match. Most turbo guys don't bother with the S5 UIM and go right to the S6 UIM and the S5 LIM. Much better airflow and bigger TB...

Here is the "after" picture of the tab I had to grind off of the rear iron to get the S5 intake manifold to seat properly. The "before" photo I took did not turn out but you can imagine what it looked like.
