Hi,

I was working on making a custom intake for my 87 GXL and I was wondering if there is any way to bypass the air regulator. It is located right past the air box. Iam putting in 3" piping and it looks very restrictive. What are some possible solutions beside buying a new ecu. Thanks a lot!

none.... new ecu it is

"new ecu" will come with a map sensor.... so you dont need AFM anymore

are you talking about the AFM? Its the silver "box" that the air box bolts to.

CCKX13 02-24-2004 04:46 PM

Yea, thats the box Im talking about. Thanks for the imput.

yeah as said before that cant be removed with out replacing the ecu to a standalone unit.

Isn't it possible to get less restriction with a S5 AFM?

CCKX13 02-24-2004 05:27 PM

Will the S5 AFM be compatible with the S4 plug? And would it flow more air?

Seppuku 02-24-2004 05:33 PM

i beleive it is less of a restriction but doesnt just plug in. You would need to make some sort of addapter or something to make it connect to the stock wiring.

scathcart 02-24-2004 07:27 PM

The S5 is more restrictive based on fluid calculations, but it can be mounted in any position.

it is possible to replace the afm with a less restrictive maf but you would need some brains to make it work... as it would require something to convert the signal from the maf to what the afm puts out at the same flow rates. Or maybe at different flow rates, you could make it tunable as a crude form of programmability with the stock ecu, as the stock setup does run it a bit rich.
