How hard is this to task ? And should I do it right away before it literally kills my car?

Rotaryman88 04-20-2003 09:14 PM

It's not terribly hard...just jack the car...take the bolts out..pull the old one out, install the new one..good to go.

Sorry, that was brief...i was on the phone,lol...but seriously, it isnt difficult. There are 3 bolts(2 short, one long) holding it on, disconnect the battery before removing it though. Pull the power line and grounds off, then slide it out. It's on the driver side bottom of the tranny...i have an S4 starter that works fine sitting in my garage if you are interested. Just PM, we can work out a deal.

It is real easy. Took me about 10 - 15 min. to do.

OK. I give in.

It's probably and MORE-THAN-LIKELY not my starter. I'll be going to Pcola FD's work Thursday to get it looked it.

But here are my reasonings as why it's probably not now....

1. It'll die at any given time.

2. It cranks, turns over, starts.

3. Volt. will shoot from 14 volts to 12 volts fairly fast esp. on cold temp., then die.

4. When it does that in #3, I can rev up the car a bit, and it'll shoot back up to 14 volts again...

So i'm guessing it's my battery? I don't know! Help! My car has ~177k miles on it. I REALLY hope it's not my engine going - it can't be. N/a's last over 200k miles. I'm so confused :(

It can't be my alternator, becaues I just changed it nearly 2-3months ago. Is it the battery? Or should I change the starter just incase, or what?

Doesn't sound like a starter. If it was your starter it would not turn over at all, turn over real slow then speed up, or just turn real slowly.

Well, I got that down. I guess I'll post thursday afternoon on the update of what it is when I go to Pcola FD's work...

ok...first of all, when an engine runs with a good alternator, voltage always jumps from 12 to 14 volts....when it dies (alternator not spinning anymore) it goes back to 12 volts.

so its not your alternator, if it starts its not your starter....my guess is either an intake leak, TPS going bad, clogged fuel filter, bad fuel pump....something in the fuel/intake system
