So, I finished up assembling things tonight and decided wtf, lets install the motor.

a few hours later with frozen hands and feet, wife and myself had the motor sitting nicely in it's new home :yum:

I took some pics, will post them in the near future as soon as I can download them.

Might have her running tomorrow, hoping for ~240HP @ the flywheel on this street ported NA.

@ 2400lbs or so, this car will run mid 13's with some luck, if all goes well. Not too shabby for an NA.

240 is based on what I've read and the guy I talk to over @ mazdatrix (henry) where I ordered most the stuff.

I like NA, it's so much cleaner under the hood https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

but if I can't break into 13's with this setup, a nice ball bearing turbo is going in with an E11 and FMIC for some high compression boosted fun.

vosko 12-29-2002 09:09 PM

what do you mean cleaner ? i gotta take a picture of my old TII setup. there is NOTHING in there looks 10times cleaner https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

congrats get that beast running !!!

1Revvin7 12-29-2002 09:09 PM

Sweet! You and your wife, ahah! Thats gotta be sweet to have a wife that is willing to do that. 240hp n/a :bigok: I wouldn't mind getting another n/a--- carbed streetport etc for a nice dd, I might be boosting an n/a with one of my friends too, hopefully.

Rob x-7 12-29-2002 09:10 PM

Sounding good, I know you put alot of carefull work into the project so it should go smoothly from here.

Rotaryman88 12-29-2002 09:11 PM

Congrats man...240HP is very reasonable with a well tuned SP NA motor...lets see the timeslips!

No turbo, no intercooler, no intercooler plumbing, no waste gate, no bov, no pov... it's simpler https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

don't get me wrong, turbos are cool... but most the people I have talked to about road racing prefer a powerful NA, if you watch those best motoring videos they say NA is more fun https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png I think it's just more predictable and linear, people often have trouble getting into boost in turns and going sideways due to the power jump. but this topic can be argued endlessly, regardless, there's less junk with an NA, lighter and cleaner https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png but less power too!

I do miss the linear feel of my na engine, it was great and preditable when steping on the gas on a turn.

Kickass man!

Looking forward to seeing some pics. :bigthumg:

pengaru 12-31-2002 01:32 PM

I should have pics downloaded tomorrow when I get to work...

I just pulled the fiero out of the garage (first time in like 2 years?) cleaned up and pushed the rx-7 in to finish up everything, have to install the aluminum radiator and intakes, new fuel filter and lines, figure out the vacuum line elimination, install header etc.

vosko: I've seen some really clean turbo setups, theres a guy on evilforum that has an amazingly clean engine bay with no bullshit on his red FC, but my NA will not have PS, AC, or emissions junk... but since I'm still using the stock ECU for now I will still have the AFM and some junk, but it's minimal.... it also has an electric fan, the engine looks lonely in the engine bay. Maybe it needs a turbo to keep it's company :smirk:

pulling the fiero out and seeing it in the sunlight reminded me of how mean it looks with those 17x8 konig villains on A520's w/12" rotors :yum: I really have to finish that car.

cheers all, break time over.

1fastT2's my old TII is just like his..........no ac, no ps, although TMIC and stock turbo..... yeah yours should look really clean but i always for all the effort to make an N/A fast you can make a Turbo car so much faster.... and you actually get some torque along with those cool whooshing noises https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

pengaru 01-01-2003 05:18 PM

pics!

I was so happy to get it in https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

http://pengaru.com/~swivel/cars/rx-7...3/IMG_2151.JPG

the rest are here.

note that the LIM is unfinished in the pics, I still have to hit it with the flapper and some hand sanding... It's looking good though... I should have taken more but I was freezin my ass off and pressed for time. Will take more later.

All I'm waiting on now is new diffusers from mazdatrix for the primary injectors, I have to mount the aluminum radiator and electric fan (some fabrication), and install the PC680 battery (relocating it to behind passenger seat). I've already cranked her a bit to get some oil through the passages and on the bearings, with fuel pump disabled.... compression swooshes sound really good even with the full RB exhaust on.

Ever read the instructions on a fan belt?

#1-make sure engine is off

I can imagine a write up and it saying "make sure to step out of the engine

bay before starting"

Apex13B 01-02-2003 07:38 PM

"make sure all asses, hands, feet and small animals are clear of the fan before starting"

Apex13B 01-02-2003 07:38 PM

is that a aluminum water neck?...who sells that..i was going to make one please PM me with a web site, phone #

Thats the S4 aluminum thermostat housing. The S5 has a plastic one I believe.

I have another S4 aluminum one if you want it, email me.

I think they might be bound to the water pump housing though, so you might have to get the S4 housing to run the S4 neck...
