I will be installing a front strut tower brace on my 1987 RX-7 GXL. It is from MazdaTrix. It has the firewall brace. The problem is that I may have to relocate the low pressure line from the airconditioning that runs along the back firewall.
This is a pretty stiff metal pipe. Has anyone ever had to do this and can give me an idea of what to do? Thanks. |
it is better to bend. one side has a rubber hose on it, so the other might just need a tweak

same problem. The MazdaTrix one bolts to the firewall as well. Just reminded me I have to paint and install that in my car! |
Both of you are off the subject you fuckers. You should be banned lol!

I just took a peek at my AC lines and it looks like it would just take a little tweak to fit on there. (like what mike said) My car is an 89 and i do not know it the AC lines are different from S4 to S5 cars.

Well, I did a trial fit of the brace last night before I repainted it. It took a little manipulation to get it in but it looks like I won't have to move anything afterall. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Let me know how that brace is. I have always liked it. Especially to stiffen the weaker vert chasis.

what sort of finish does it have out of the box?
|
its comes white
|
so i'm guessing it's not a powdercoat finish then? just paint? ... i probably should have just looked at the mazdatrix site.
|
Yes its powdercoated, but I dont like it white. The MazdaTrix piece is a nice piece as it ties in the firewall ( and a engine brace as well for hardcore people )
I fix/repaint powdercoat all the time. |
do you just paint over the powdercoat ?

Alot of boat parts come powdercoated, and when then get scratched or start to oxidize and blister I paint them. One of the dealers we do warranty work for sold boats that had a purple mettalic powdercoated swimplatform and almost everyone of them would come in scratched needing to be repaired. Taking them on and off the boat is a task in itself let alone getting it powdercoated again. The Imron paint holds up as good as powdercoating and at least it can be repaired. |
that's cool, I should learn more about finishing stuff, painting and body work type things... I need to buy a house already so I can have enough space for tools and such.
|
considering your attention to detail, you would enjoy the challenge.
Kick in the ass about me buying the house is the garage is too small, but thats next years plan to expand it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png First comes the livingroom and kitchen. |
I posted this to another thread but I will repeat it here just in case you missed it. I finished installing the Strut tower brace. It was a son of a bitch to get attached to the firewall because of all my stock oil lines and air conditioning lines in the way but I finally did it. Helped to swear alot and the fact that I didn't mind my knuckles bleeding.
The engine seems more responsive because the brace is also attached to the water pump bracket and this keeps the engine steady when revving. This was very noticeable. I have not had a chance to drive it yet with the brace in place because I still have to put in the Bonez Superflo converter system and get it inspected. |

that brace doesnt go to the firewall so you wont have the
same problem. The MazdaTrix one bolts to the firewall as well. Just reminded me I have to paint and install that in my car! |
