Since the last system was such a failure due to NOISE! I am in the process of building a new single exhaust for the NA.

Current thinking has me leaning towards:

RB Road Race Header

2" to 2 1/2" Collector

RB Pre-Silencer -or- Borla X1R

2 1/2 pipe w/Mandrel bends to

RB Turbo Muffler.

I am also open to suggestions. Trying to keep costs and noise at a minumum. I was banned from running the last AUTO-X due to Excessive noise.

I have also considered a Supertrapp Silenecer on the pipe so I can remove baffles when I need to tone it down for Sports Car Communist of America Events. JOhn

What are your goals? Not that I have any suggestions, I'm just curious. Are you going for acceptable noise, good power, with something inexpensive?

I guess my question is, why are you doing this, as opposed to one of the systems currently on the market? (besides "making stuff is fun")

well if you want quiet go true duals with one "turbo" muffler and the longest glasspack you can fit on eash pipe. each pipe should be 2-2.5" diameter. it will lack high end hp due to it not being collected, but its quiet cause its mostly muffler

I don't neccesarily want "QUIET". I want it to be less obnoxious to prevent me from getting banned at the AUTO-X. See my post here:https://www.nopistons.com/forums/ind...howtopic=26252 https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif

Wow, SCCA said your car was too loud? They haven't been to OUR meets then! Holy **** do we have some loud cars (like a Lotus Super 7 with a Chevy 3800 motor bored over running open headers, and Vosko's old GTU running a straight pipe after headers), and they have never said anything about excessive noise...maaybe your region is just a bunch of commies https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Anyway, your setup sounds pretty good...maybe go with a non-turbo muffler though, for the slightly smaller diameter.

I don't call them th SPORTS CAR COMMUNISTS of AMERICA for nothing!

FCmaniac 09-16-2003 08:42 AM

That's ridiculous.. I've heard open header cars at our events too.

Here's what I think you should do Banzai. Stay away from supertrapps or any louver core or turbo mufflers, they don't flow enough. Just stick with perf core resonator/presilencer and a straight through muff.

Go with the RB road race header, collector to single RB presilencer to Magnaflow stainless straight through muff ($70 at bigexhaust.com, pick your size). Or go true duals with 2 presilencers and 2 straight through muffs.

my engine is ported like yours and I'm running RB streetable header with the RB presilencer and the RB duals, it's too quiet, the intake is louder than the exhaust.

I think you might do well wit hthe single RB turbo muffler, I'm not sure how much silencing the presilencer does.

Well for RIGHT now, I took off the FLOWMASTER and went to 2 1/2" after the Spin-Tech to a Magnaflow Part # 14326.

I can actually hear myself think at idle. Dyno will tell the storey next Tuesday

You can add a downturn at the end to direct noise at the ground.

It works on tracks where the db meter is at a fixed location. May not work to well if they walk up to the car.
