As some of you read before in my post about "Ebay Worked for me"

Well I finally arrived in Ohio and had a first look at the car yesterday.

She is a little rougher than the pictures led on. but she is all there and I think we can use it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png Engine fires right up after 5-10 seconds of cranking, cold start jumps the RPMs up and they settle back down just fine after a few seconds. The engine once warmed up is shaking pretty badly @ idle though, but the idle is extremely low @ 550-750ish If you bring the idle to 1000rpm the car purrs like a kitten. I have not been able to drive the car yet as it has been sitting for a while and the rear rotors look like the caliper may be stuck on one if not both sides. Both the brake and clutch resevoirs are near empty and there is a leak present. The previous owner definately was not a mechanic, and there are a few shady things going on in the engine bay...first is the fuel filter was bypassed, Eb, Joe, and a 12 pack of Pabst welded up this exhaust, once I get pictures of it you will all laugh. The interior is gonna take a new carpet, and a little elbow grease. And the ever present FC electrical gremlins are definately there. no horn, not sure what fuses are all missing but it looks like the previous owner had a few problems with the fuses as there are blown carcasses all over the interior. The engine has the A/C compressor there, but the belt is unhooked, the air pump is gone. I have not dug too deep into the rats nest yet nor have I checked for leaks. this is gonna be a fun winter project I can see already https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

It sounds like a fun project. Be worth it getting it running and in good shape again.

vosko 09-30-2003 02:00 PM

cool

Leetheslacker 09-30-2003 03:17 PM

Where in ohio is it?

j9fd3s 09-30-2003 04:00 PM

the idle might be low because the air pump is gone?

well after looking it over real good, and driving it, looks like I may have jumped the gun a little. Due the fact that it does not have license plates on it yet I took it for a quick spin around the block. brakes are all working https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png clutch has a minor leak I am still tracking down, the shifter felt like a stick in a bowl of oatmeal (missing the plastic bushing I found out under further investigation) The car smokes a little when you wrap it up over 6000 but I think part of that is the port acctuators are not hooked up to anything, and the car has been sitting for a while. took the seats out today and traced down some of the wiring that was just laying in the interior, most turned out to be speaker wires that were not hooked up to anything. So far there really is not that much wrong with it other than the mufflers bang on the chassis during the low idle, the shifter is worn, the tires are shot, and some minor cosmetics that I will fix over time,

Tomorrow it goes under the knife, she is gettign a new pacesetter header, the stereo that is in it is getting ripped out and prepared for the Kenwood DPH-6010 headunit, the fuses are all good. And the port acctuators are being pulled off to do the wire up mod so they work. I would rather sacrifice the low end on this for winter traction than have to worry about the engine flooding all the time because of all the fuel being dumped.

Lee, the car is in NE Ohio, just below Youngstown, in a little town called Leetonia. It is sitting in my fathers garage and I am just getting it prepped for the 400 mile drive to Dover Delaware.

More updates to come

vosko 09-30-2003 05:20 PM

Apex13B 09-30-2003 07:03 PM

having a running project is always nice....just keep it running

TheCamel 09-30-2003 08:34 PM

Well I figured out the loss of power issue... 6 port acctuators were fine, the sleeves though were locked solid. took some work, the screws holding the acctuator rods were stripping out, so I lightly tapped the rods with a hammer and worked them back and forth slowly to get the front one free enough I could wire it open. The rear though, there just was not any room whatsoever to get anything in there with enough force to push it to the open position, took about an hour of being carefull to finally get it right. But I am learning https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR One thing I have learned is that the N/A guys have as much fun as the TII guys when it comes to getting all the stuff right. Finally got under the car to find that my new pacesetter is not going to work on Eb & Jebs welding job. I guess the kid that owned prior to me decided he was going to make it faster by using Honda technology. I have twin 3A Racing mufflers on the car, but about 1.5-1.75 inch pipe running to the back so not a whole lot of anything into these big ass mufflers. The kid apparently wanted to get rid of the cat when the exhaust was put on, so the shop built a test pipe for the car, which is fine in my eyes cause most of us test our cars potential fairly often. Well when they made the pipe they only put a flange on the pre-cat side, and not on the cat - cat back side, so where the new pacesetter would blt to the cat back ther is not a flange, so I will have to make a trip to the local exhaust shop and have one made. Things are coming along rather quickly so I should have it on the road by Monday. can;t wait https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Radio will be in the for sale section, its an aftermarket Sony ES tape deck/ CD controller. The goodies get all put together over the winter, that is why the end of spring timeframe.
