My dash is out. I have throw out all the HVAC systems, and I play on running an lcd dash that runs off the e6k. The stock dash is really heavy and all my vents are broken :(. I think this looks pretty cool, and I like how it curves. The lcd could go there nicely.. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR

wheres the link for th LCD dash?

Rotaryman88 04-17-2004 12:45 AM

I've seen that dash in an FC before on some website..i liked it, but wish it would keep the center section where the radio/etc was..but instead of having the radio..just have a place you can cut out and put turbo timers, controllers,etc..

Anyways..I say buy it,lol...as long as you promise not to position your tach like that... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif

ColinRX7 04-17-2004 12:48 AM

Eww reminds me of a truck..

Maybe I just need to get used to it..

BigTurbo74 04-17-2004 01:08 AM

figure out how much it weighs, how much you have to cut, and how much mounting brackets are ontop of the price plus shipping... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/tongue.png

RETed 04-17-2004 08:07 AM

Yuck, and those pics are not even of an FC???

j9fd3s 04-17-2004 10:10 AM

how is the steering column gonna bolt to the ugly thing?

i tried a miata dash, its a little too narrow and a little too tall and a little too short, but it kinda looks neat

setzep 04-17-2004 11:45 AM

I'd rather see you keep the stock dash (gutted) in there.

I was thinking about that last night. I did email them on the rest of the questions. Keep the replies coming! Has anyone ever tried an FD dash in an fc?

Shane.Trammell 04-17-2004 11:57 AM

just do a cf one

Rob x-7 04-17-2004 03:39 PM

have a tin knocker make one for you

a guy who does tin knocking for race cars should

bang one out in a few hours

that would be off the chain but i'd hate to see the price on it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif

good luck on your project 1Revvin7

ambassador_josh 04-17-2004 06:49 PM

I dont like it.

NCTII87 04-18-2004 04:39 PM

i think that **** is hot. i think it would look way better if it was sheet metal though. had one in a civic round tracker i helped build and it was badass. ahh.. the tach comment... you see that 10K better when its sittin sideways... i always have mine so that the peak RPMs are right at my direct eyesite..

1Revvin7 04-21-2004 12:24 PM

Its weighs 3#s! I wonder what the stock unit weighs? 50#s? They said the sides just need a little trimming to fit.

Baldy 04-21-2004 12:38 PM

wouldn't a sheetmetal dash be deadly in a crash?

i dunno about the fc, but an 84-85 dash is 44lbs, complete (radio, giages, **** in the glovebox, etc). that thing is 3lbs by itself

spaceman Spiff 04-21-2004 02:05 PM

i say cf fd dash would be neat. of course not an exact replica but one near it . make it yourself and it will be cheaper than anything you can buy.

jackboots 04-22-2004 02:37 PM

I dunno....I think it looks pretty cheapo.

After seeing the recent Super Street mag with that sick Nissan Micra R that Nissan GB did, I've been thinking about having my dashboard flocked.

Flocking is where they coat something with an adhesive, positively charge it, and go over it with negatively charge tiny fibers, causing them to stick to the surface and stand up straight. they then shave the fibers to a short, uniform length.

Its very durable (they do this for some commercial entry way rugs) and it looks VERY sweet.

You can kinda see the effect in this pic:

http://www.rsportscars.com/foto/08/micrar04_inter.jpg

FlukeSDS 04-22-2004 02:41 PM

"Flocking" sounds pretty cool, I've never heard of that procedure before. Although I have seen some riced out civics and crxs with "carpet" on their dash. I felt like wiping my feet and then sitting in the car the last time I saw that lol.

jackboots 04-22-2004 02:50 PM

Heh heh heh...carpet. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif

nah, its way different. hrmm...what can i compare it to?..... AHH!!! on some asian cars, the inside of the glove box is flocked. I know that on my boss' work car, the Kuh-Kuh-Kuh-Kia, it is.

Or how about those old toys that are non articulate and plasticky, but feel really cool and fuzzy? ring any bells?

FlukeSDS 04-22-2004 02:53 PM

Oh yeah! lol I get it now.

MPM 04-23-2004 07:08 AM

Dash? We don't need no stinkin dash!

My car with no stinkin dash

Shane.Trammell 04-23-2004 09:16 AM

yeah why do you need a dash anyways?

I really... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif really love that lack of a battery box.. I take it you don't have a scattershield either? So between the possibilities of a nice battery acid bath and a intense warm steel enema.. I'd say you have all the masochistic race car driver tendencies covered.. I dig that dash.. don't dig the placement but I guess thats the best thing about race dashes, you decide where you want your **** to go

That battery was there for some test fitting and to get the engine running. I don't run without a battery box. Whats not shown in that old picture is the box that covers the battery. You assume to much dude.

Don't need a scatter shield. Its not a drag car(<-boring stuff to me) and I'm not running extreme RPM's. Right now the engine is a stock S4 N/A with a carb. Not a big need for a scatter shield. Once again your assuming to much.

FCmaniac 04-26-2004 08:17 AM

I like the sheetmetal dash idea.

bigbignacha 04-26-2004 09:13 AM

i like the no dash idea https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

j200pruf 04-26-2004 02:27 PM

Revvin, you just need to make your own damnit. Don't be so friggin lazy https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png In all honesty I think that dash would look pretty decent.

no offense just my opinion but i think that is one of hte ugliest things i have ever seen go into a 7. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png looks like somebody hit the car with a whole bag of wtf.

1Revvin7 04-30-2004 12:33 PM

For now Im just going to put the gutten dash back in. I'm going to put the money into something better, a roll cage...

DJ Blu 04-30-2004 02:47 PM

build ur own outta fiberglass, it would be much betterlookin than that one. and it'll be really light, def lighter than 3 lbs.

its easier to type that then it is to make it

it would still be more then 3lbs

tin knocker is the answer

DJ Blu 05-02-2004 02:49 AM

i figured fiberglass would be pretty light and ideal, because everyone was commenting on the aesthetics of the dash. the sheet metal would definitely be the best bet, functionally. I just thought that he could build whatever sort of dash he wanted out of fiberglass, aesthetically pleasing and functional

psyclo 05-03-2004 09:22 PM

no freaking way your guna hand lay up a peice that big and make it less than 3lbs.

with pre-preg in a vacum bag maybe and that would be thin fibre

rmaiersg 05-04-2004 06:29 PM

What about something like this? This is a fabcar though... That LSD display is all you'd need for a dash.

psyclo 05-04-2004 09:16 PM

That would be a damned sexy dash, if it looked alittle more livable outside the track.

TII777 05-05-2004 01:20 AM

yeah very cool, i like the bend so you have easy access to everything. The first dash is a little more visually pleasing. regardless it would be a challenge to fab your own dash. A lot of time would have to be invested in something like that.
