I have an 86 N/A, and of course I want a turbo. I've read that turbo engines don't last as long, but they sure are fast. I'm using this car almost daily, and really haven't put any money into it (yet). Should I save up, get rid of it, and get a turbo? Will I end up spending more for a new engine sooner? Or should I just upgrade the N/A? Thanks for your experienced advice. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif

TURBO

Baldy 10-07-2002 03:24 PM

Of course, then I'd have to find a tII in my area...for cheap....

phinsup 10-07-2002 03:26 PM

Hey I can only solve one dilema at a time.

Baldy 10-07-2002 03:30 PM

Seriously, though:clown: . Can the turbos be just as reliable?

SoniX 10-07-2002 03:31 PM

damn near, as long as you don't mod the hell out of them, or if you do mod them, you mod them right

Baldy 10-07-2002 03:34 PM

I just want a street car with which to put ricers to shame and for general hauling of ass. Anyways, I don't think I'd have the funds to do any major or modding.

Have you ever driven a TII? I'm guessing no, because most people who have wouldn't ask questions like this. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

exactly.

90_GTU_jeremy 10-07-2002 09:19 PM

yeah get the turbo.. my na handles great but i hve to put too much effort into beating integras... shifting at 8000 just to beat a riced integra is fun at first but gets tiring

SoniX 10-07-2002 10:23 PM

hmm, I shift at 8000 during normal driving, maybe I should ease up a bit.

90_GTU_jeremy 10-07-2002 11:11 PM

hehe nah.. the rotary loves its... its like exercise for the engine lol which is fine as log as you can afford the gas

Baldy 10-08-2002 08:09 AM

So I gather that the turbo also makes a good daily driver....but if I'm worried about cost, (maintanence and upgrades, not initial cost) is it still the best choice?

UniqueTII 10-08-2002 11:03 AM

Almost everyone I know with a TII has had a reliable daily driver...before going crazy with mods and turning up the boost.

Mine runs low 14s at the track, gets 23 mpg on the highway, only breaks when I'm retarded.

vosko 10-08-2002 11:08 AM

mine blewup because i was drag racing it twice a week. at the end i was running 15+ psi..........

rxxtasy 10-08-2002 01:15 PM

you can supercharge it and will not kill engine life, byt only run about 8psi

thats really uncharted territory though.

U could say the same thing about a turbo engine, just run it at low boosts, then if u wanna play crank it up. Psi is Psi no matter if it comes from a turbo or SC. The car is already setup for a turbo and has a turbo model so there would be no point to putting a SC in it, unless u want to be different and like to fab things up yourself. But its kind of pointless to be that fast with all that $$ later..

I drove a TurboII my friend was considering buying, it was a peice of junk though and made my NA feel fast https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

However I drove another TurboII a friend did the brakes on at his work after bullshitting with the owner... 1-2 shift on boost put the car sideways, can't say i've had that problem in my NA.

RX7Aggie 10-08-2002 04:43 PM

I had a NA automatic, and when it got backed into, I was more than willing to take the insurance money and get a turbo II. I did just that, and I love it. Sure, it cost a lot to rebuild the engine, but my mechanic said as long as I dont mod the crap out of it with too much boost, I should expect another 100,000 mi.

With my 86 NA, I always drove it like it was fast, but it wasn't. Especially with an auto, I always got beat off the line. There's no replacement for the feeling when the turbo kicks in, and that sound.

Pretty nice for a daily driver, expecially since I'm running about 7 psi and have beat an impreza and a mustang 5.0. What other car can you say that about?

GO TURBO II.

Baldy 10-09-2002 09:48 AM

Now I need to find a TII...which looks nearly impossible around here. The closest one I found was in North Carolina, and "needed work." And it costs twice as much as my N/A did.

banzaitoyota 10-09-2002 09:54 AM

I have one in SC fro 1800. Needs a new engine

Baldy 10-09-2002 09:57 AM

well, damn. How much would that cost me? (a new engine)

RX7Aggie 10-09-2002 06:04 PM

my rebuild cost $5300, but it was trashed and ghetto rigged, pushing 20 psi before it blew. Stupid previous owners. This new engine should be good for a long time, knock on wood. And it's killer fast.

Baldy 10-10-2002 10:51 AM

Honestly, I think I'll stick with my N/A. It's paid for, and I think I like if I got the TII, I would get greedy and blow it up. Plus a TII would cost too much (compared to what I got the N/A for).

turborotor 10-10-2002 10:54 AM

What areyou plans with the n/a? LIke autocrossing?

Turbo II 10-10-2002 11:22 PM

turborotor do u go autocrossing? that **** is badass

Baldy 10-11-2002 09:17 AM

No autocrossing, just street riding. I just like to drive.

Baldy 10-11-2002 09:30 AM

and what freakin time zone does this forum run on?

Turbo II 10-11-2002 10:13 AM

FCmaniac 10-11-2002 12:15 PM
