as I tryed to state my car starts fine idles 1000 rpm stead but as it warms up it climbs to 2 grand and bouces exactly like I am pushing in the TPS! I have already set it to 1 k and I have checked closely for vacuum leaks so... WTF any help would be thankful... BTW the TPS setting before adjustment was 2.4 k!

This happens to me too...starts at around 2k, then drops to 1k, then starts bouncing between 1000 and 1500 for a minute or two. What gives??? BTW all vac line hoses have been checked, most replaced about a month ago.

when its cold it should idle at 1500-2000 rpms

when cold mine only idles about 1200 rpm

Make sure the coolant hose that travels to the choke are not clogged up. Especially the aluminium extension on back of the dynamic chamber. If the thermo choke doesn't get any hot coolant your idle will not come down. Ill keep checking this thread and trying to help..

Thank you your "judge" your knowledge is very helpful... I will check it right now!!!

needa86NAat 02-28-2003 02:14 PM

damn I gotta start spell checkin!!!

PimpShackDave 02-28-2003 04:33 PM

I understand the car idles high cold, my N/A goes straight for 3k at startup, sits there for 15-20 seconds, then comes down to near normal, maybe a few hundred high at 1200. My problem is that the idle is bouncing about 600 rpm, like if you were to quickly punch and release the throttle. This happens after the car's been running a couple minutes, when it's about halfway to 'warmed up.'

I'll check the coolant lines, thanks for the tip, Judge Ito.

needa86NAat - Hope I'm not pissing you off by posting my problems on your thread, I feel like we've got a similar issue and I don't want to create clutter asking the same things somewhere else. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

mine does the same awful business. idle surges up and down. doesnt help that the intercooler covers everything that you need to tune to get it to run properly

My 86 na auto bounces at idle sometimes, even when warm. I have no idea why but it sure gets old.

Apex13B 02-28-2003 08:13 PM

i adjusted the tps idle/stop to 1k ohm and it stopped that

your tps is just adjusted incorrectly

Apex13B 02-28-2003 08:16 PM

here is a link on how to adjust your tps

No need to thank me. Just the fact that your a rotary engine brother is thanks enough https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif I'll add a list to your idle problem.

Get the engine started, after about a minute take your hand and manually LOWER the choke idle. The choke Idle is located close to the firewall side on the throttle body. I use a small flat head screw driver to lower the choke idle. If at this point the Idle drops, then the problem might be a bad choke or the choke is not getting a proper amount of coolant pressure to make it work. I have also found that a LOOSE water pump belt does not allow the IDLE to come down. Because the water pump belt is loose, in return slows down the coolant flow and the choke does not work. keep us updated..

wow ....I was going to mess with the choke as advised but I think I will wait till I get the duel alt pulley the slipping WP is something I wasnt consitering... It is on the way from fc3spro.... but I have been waiting 2 weeks now!!!...thanks again...
