hey all, i got a few paint chips on my white s5. i plan on repainting it next year (don't we all have things planned for next year when it comes to our 7's?).



but for now i wanted to kno if there was any type of temporary solution i could apply to my baby.



was thinkin of hitting up home depot, buying a can of primer and a can of white spray paint. would the results be okay? i mean i'm not expecting 100% match and perfection, but i dun want to be left with something disgusting and retardo looking.

Go to the mazda dealer ship or a local auto paint sxupply store. They have paint that is matched to the car. You can get it in cans or in little bottles that you brush on. That would be the best quick fix in my opinion

dont go to home depot and put that crap on your car.



Go to the dealer or a local autobody or autobody supply store

and get the paint. You can even get it in aerosol from a autobody place.



That white is super easy to match.



if they are chips, just dab them with a brush.

do i need primer to apply before paint? clear coat after? i mean it is a temporary fix, but i dun like doing **** half assed (if its cost efficent).

are you talking about the typical peeling paint or chips?



Chips are small and a brush is the easiest way to touch them

up, not a 2" brush, a small detail brush, you can even get them

at a art supply or even a model painting brush. I wouldnt bother

trying to dab primer on a chip.



If your talking about the peeling paint, dont worry about primer, the problem with the peeling paint was that the paint came off the primer, the primer itself was bonded well to the surface so further priming isnt needed until you go to paint the car.

thanks rob, very informative. and its the peeling kind of paint. like it started as a chip, and kept peeling more and more. like i could go and pick it all off my car (my entire car it seems, once i start picking, it brings up new paint, that other wise seemed fine)



so im trying not to pick at it.



wut about clear coat after wards? and how much should i dab? just the bare metal part, where the paint is gone, or like a good portion around it, including paint that is fine?

no clear with that single stage white thats on the car now.



you have the typical peeling paint, it will come off in sheets sometimes,

and if you try to tape it off to spray paint it the tape will end up peeling

more paint.



Live with it as is I say. Anything else will look like even more crap in

my opinion. But if you must touch it up get some single stage urethane from a bodysupply or autobody shop and dab it on there with a foam brush, just the

parts that need paint, not around it.

thanks again rob, will follow your advice and just do a little touch up. like i said, temporary fix. i just cant live with it being peeling. cuz in all honestly i have no idea when im getting my paint job, aiming for this coming spring.



another question, i just bondo'ed my passenger side key whole shut. i took off the handle, removed the lock, threw out the lock. it still works fine, other than the fact that you cant key lock/open from the pasenger side. but thas no biggie, since im always gonna be opening it from my side anyways. (in case you are wondering why i would do that to begin with, the lock broke)



anyways, back to the bondo. i filled the hole, and sanded it down so its now flush with the rest of the handle. how do i paint that? do i need primer for that? you think i should just use fuggin whiteout?

get yourself some spray can primer, try to prime the area only

when the primer dries scuff the whole handle

get yourself some white spray paint and spray the whole handle,

you could also try getting some white, and some clear, spray the white on the primer spot only, giving the area around it a mist coat of white,

then clear the whole handle so you kind of blend it in.



that key hole will probably end up sinking in after a while.
