I have a Turbo II motor that i bought off a kid for $700...if it needs a rebuild, who cares?
It is very clean and came with everything...he claims it is a JDM motor with 35 K on it. Problem is, i dont know what year it is, if its an S4 or an S5, etc. Anyone know how to ID it? Thanks! |
number of fan blades will tell you i believe its s4=8 s5 =10
|
Thanks much...do S4 and S5 motors differ that much? The parts guy at Mazdza insists that the differences are very slight...
|
different manifolds from what i have been told is another way
|
thanks for your help...looks like i have an S4. Can anyone tell me if, in their opinion, this thing is worth building up a little? Or is it a bit of a dog and the reason there was an S5?

s4 s5 most things are different, but usually just enough to make it not interchange. the s5 engines are better, but there was no major fault with the s4's. |
anyone think i would be better off just scrapping all of the wiring, sensors, ecu, etc. and just going the megasquirt route?
|
If you're thinking of going with a stand alone, Id go more of a Haltech route, Just saying this because this forum in particular has lots of support which can help you get on your way sooner should you run into any hiccups. As far as scrapping all the sensors and wiring harness... Most sensors if not all, can be re-used with your stand alone computer... all you have to do is connect the wiring leads supplied with your stand alone to the OEM connector of the sensors... so no don't scrap the sensors (except for the MAP if youre gonna run some serious boost)

depends.. ive done plenty of haltechs, and next time i'm buying an RTEK. megasquirt looks good, although ive never used it. |
