So close to being done the T2. Everything fabricated, wired, plumbed, connected. Turns out my motor has awesome compression, but my oil seals are bad. Blowing oil and tons of smoke out of the downpipe. This sucks so much ass it's not funny. Guess I need to get a job... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif

Here are some pics I hadn't posted yet...

Modified the front bumper for additional air flow, and because I really don't care much about it...

Close Up...

pengaru 10-29-2003 04:11 PM

thats crap, are you sure it's the engine and not the turbo leaking oil?

1Revvin7 10-29-2003 04:17 PM

Welcome to my world. Just make sure its not the turbo, or adding too much premix. Is the level of oil in the pan going down?

Nemesis 10-29-2003 04:33 PM

We thought it was aturbo problem back when I bought the car. That's what started this entire ordeal. When I purchased the new turbo, it needed friends... So I ended up with a Haltech, FMIC, etc.

New turbo is on, guess it wasn't the turbo after all.

88IntegraLS 10-29-2003 06:51 PM

Sorry to hear it! That sucks.

Time to yank and spank that sucker back together with new O rings. It's not very hard, or expensive, if you have a place to do it at.

i.didnt.do.it 10-29-2003 06:57 PM

Speaking of prob, you still need a pic of the throttle shits? Hes been gettin in late and when I try taking a pic its to dark out...and the flash aint helping...I'll still try this weekend though..

turborotor 10-30-2003 01:36 AM

THose plug look good unless you clean them

Blink 10-30-2003 02:41 PM

sucks about the oil control rings, atleast the rebuild shouldn't cost you to much if you do it yourself.

Nemesis 11-01-2003 11:18 AM

Started taking the car apart to check it. The IC piping and the intake side of the turbo has zero oil in it. However, the exhaust side of the turbo and the DP are filling with oil. I'm waiting on my roomate to get back with a hose so I can connect the oil feed and return lines for the turbo together so I can fire up the car and watch for oil in the exhaust ports with the turbo and manifold removed. I have a strong feeling I will be seeing quite a bit of oil flying out of there. We'll see....

Nemesis 11-01-2003 11:58 AM

Got the exhaust manifold off. The exhaust ports are completely black. There are dried up little oil pools inside them. The exhaust gasket is even coated in oil. Looks like time for a rebuild. Any other diagnoseses?

88IntegraLS 11-01-2003 01:44 PM

I see only one other possibility for oil getting into the combustion chamber like that, and it is the crankcase vent. So you could disconnect the crankcase vent hose and see if oil blows out the vent, and if so, try running the engine for a while w/o the line connected and see if it still smokes. If not, your vent is pumping oil into the intake.

I don't know any reason why the vent would pump oil into the intake all the time, but I also don't know everything, so anything could be possible. It is one last thing to eliminate before investing the time and $ into a removal / rebuild.

The crankcase vent hose is disconnected and has been. So unfortunatly that's not it. Looks like rebuild time. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif

Thanks for the input!

porting

Definately port it once you have it open. Porting is probably the most worthwhile mod of them all, if the engine has to come apart anyhow. You can send off the plates to someone and have it done for a few hundred bucks or do it yourself like I did. If you do it yourself, I would suggest buying an old center or pair of side housings to do a couple practice ports on before doing the final ones. It seems pretty normal to go through a scratching phase when learning to port, when your die grinder or dremel jumps out of the port and takes a walk on the polished sealing surface of the plate. After I had done a couple ports, I pretty much had the grinder under control and did some acceptable work.

Go for it! I would.

keep in mind he's turbo so he will have to port waste gate and possibly upgrade turbo depending on the porting, it might be a good idea to just do a small cleanup on the ports unless he can afford to take it further.

Apex13B 11-02-2003 03:00 PM

good point pengaru, porting on a turbo2 causes a "snowball" effect

Not to sound like a candy ass or an amatuer but that is a nice touch putting duct tape on the housing to be ported. I have seen the aftermath of a sleepy die grinder operator rushing to finish the port and it is way nasty!
