Ok, here's is my dilema!
I had my 86 N.A Rebuilt around 4 or 5 thousand miles ago. I DID NOT get any portwork done to the engine And i regret not getting any porting work done. My question is. With enough time and 'skill' Could i dissasemble my engine and port it? I know there's a rule of thumb that says 'once it's together you can't port it' Well, how true does that hold if my engine only has around 4k on it. I want to do a variation of the street port. I could get the templates. And i understand the car could be out of service for a couple weeks. PLease help guys I want to take her apart and get more Grunt out of her. BUt i am afriad that when i put her all back together she's gunna run like crap do to dissasembling her. THanks for the help. Markus |
just find a rebuildable engine for cheap, do another rebuild and port, and keep your current one as a backup (or sell it, whatever)
but I don't know the answer to your question. |
IMO why do it now when you have JUST put $$ into the rebuild? might as well run the crap out of her, blow her out, THEN rebuild again and port it just to get the worth of the recent rebuild....
...although when you put porting and rotary in the same sentence.... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/bubbrubb.gif or what baldy said |
This is true. I guess rotary engines are easy to come by these day's. WIth all the dieing 1st and 2nd gen cars.
Prolly pic an engine up for less than 500 bucks. THan get a rebuilt kit. and port the crap outa her. I dunno. All in my head. |

Central Florida. Clearwater/Tampa. How far in N. Florida are u?
Lol. P.S Will an Engine fit into the back of an Rx-7? lol If so how much u asking for it? |
I'm in Tallahassee. Just so you know, it's still in the car. I haven't really thought about price much, maybe trading stuff (if you have stuff to trade).
Here's the background: I've never seen this car run. The guy I bought it from (let's call him steve) said he bought it from some kid, and it was running at the time. Steve then used it as a parts car, which is what I've been using it for. All the main engine components are there. I think Steve just used things like headlight motors and such, and I've robbed clips, hoses, electrical plugs, things like that. In other words, the engine is still intact, it's just been sitting for probably close to 2 years. I didn't think this would matter much since you're rebuilding it. Did your a/c system work when you removed it? If so, I'd call that a trade. I'll consider other options as well. Either you provide tools and engine hoist, or we can go rent one (assuming they can be rented). I'd be willing to help, but I've never done that before. Let me know if you're interested, and we can discuss specifics. |
and I don't know if it'll fit in the back of another car. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif
