Yesterday it was really raining and i drove through a pretty deep puddle. I made it through, but after it died and wouldn't turn over. i thought i just got the ignition wet so i pushed home w/ some friends. after about an hour i went out to try to start it and i fired right up. i put it in the garage and let it dry over night. today it would not turn over for the love of god. After a good 15 minutes of trying to start it i could smell the faint smell of gas.



Should i let it sit or should i do the de-flooding procedure? I've heard of it but have no idea how to procede. Any help at all would be great.

An RX-7 will not unflood itself no matter how long it sits. Proof positive when you hear guys talk about how they went to buy an RX-7 that had been sitting for 6 months and they start it right up by doing an unflooding procedure.



The simplest way I have found is to open the fuse box in the engine compartment near the driver's side strut tower. At the top of the fuse box should be two fuses labeled EGI Comp and EGI Inj. I usually pull both because I can't remember which to actually pull. Pull both fuses then push the accelerator to the floor and crank it over 10-12 times. Put the fuses back in and do not push the accelerator at all, try to start it up. It may take two or three times of doing this to get it started. It will blow copious amounts of smoke.



If this does not work, you can try the ATF procedure. You can see a detailed description at RX7.com on both these procedures.



Remember, RX-7's will flood easily if they are started and not allowed to come up to operating temperature. You can't just start them leave them running for a couple of seconds then shut them off again. they will usually always flood.

Also check your plugs now.. you should probably replace them. We had a car that we had just put new plugs in, the engine got flooded and the new plugs were immediately fowled when we tried to start it.



Took me about 24 hours of cursing the car....then saying hey I'll put new plugs in before I figured this out.



It was hard to believe considering the plugs were brand new but this is a common scenario.

I've flooded mine, then unflooded it, and it's ran fine since.



Also, isn't the pedal-to-the-floor thing only for S5 FC's?

The pedal to the floor thing works on my S4 fc but the fuses have to be pulled to shut off the injectors. It won't work if the fuses aren't pulled. There was mention in another thread of you just being able to put the pedal to the floor without removing the fuses to unflood. That may be for the S5 but not my S4 at least.

Thanx. i unflooded it in about ten minutes. i pulled the egi comp. fuse and floored it while cranking the engine put the fuse back in and it started. thanx again for all the posts.

one time i flooded my car really really bad and what u did would`t work so i just unpluged my fuel pump started it up then it stalled out and then i pluged the pump back in started it up again and it was fine i dont think this is good for the motor the no gas . and yeah i cant spell and all that fun stuff but u get it .

I flooded my S4 TII once when I pulled into a parking spot, and accidently let off the clutch while I was still in gear, so it stalled. I was already in my spot, so I was like, "oh well" and went into the store. if you pull the egi fuses you dont need to put the pedal to the floor... i have installed a relay and a switch for the egi inj and all i do is flip the switch turn it over 6-8 times and then flip and starts right up...... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif
