i have a 90 gtu and am going to be upgrading soon to atkins carb supercharger so im changing my transmission to turbo
Ive heard many things how i can do it but what exactly do i need? can i still use my nonturbo clutch, pp, and flywheel? how will this work right>???? please help |
You could swap the turbo II bell housing with the Old school Rx4 bell housing. This will allow you to use the non turbo flywheel, clutch and pp. But easier yet, just swap your NON turbo flywheel set up, to a turbo II flywheel set up. After that your going to need the Turbo II drive shaft.
|
will he need TII differential and half shafts too ?
|
he either needs a diffy ar an adaptor plate between the t2 d shaft and the na diffy

Just swap the whole drivetrain in, do it right the 1st time. You could keep ur non-turbo pp/flwheel/clutch couldn't you? I don't see why not. It may not be able to handle the power though, especially if u you like to dump the clutch.

true true, so just swap the bellhousing, right?
|
the m box (na tanny) has a bell housing cast into the case, it doesn't swap with the rbox (t2), it would be sweet if it did though

U think its just a matter of bellhousings??? and i could keep my nonTurbo clutch,pp and flywheel?
Has anyone seen this done correctly and works just as normal??? |
Old school Rx4 bell housing is what you need according to ito's post.
you need a different bell housing because the turboii has a larger diameter flywheel, if you use the NA flywheel with the TurboII transmission without changing the bell housing, your starter gear will not mesh with the flywheel... if anyone has that rx4 bell housing laying around PM me, I wouldnt mind having one in case I break my trans... would hate to have to replace the aluminum flywheel so I can run the TurboII transmission.. it's an expensive part. |
i'll check around in the vintage motorsports business!...maybe tilton makes a bellhousing for this little issue we have here!
|
maybe u should just get a T2 clutch and pp.

even if i were willing to dish out the money to buy the tii version of the aluminum flywheel... larger diameter == higher moment of mass/inertia. it will rev quicker with the NA aluminum flywheel... so it is justifiable in my book to swap the bellhousing. the NA version of any of the aftermarket flywheels will likely have lower moment of mass than the turboii version, if I buy another it will likely be that chromoly multi-small-diameter-clutch-disc, for NA if available... |
So what you guys are saying is that all i need is the old rx housings and i could be set to go???
where can i find these??? and im trying to keep my flywheel, pp and clutcht hat i have in it right now if i can |
if you can find one an 74-78 rx4/5 bellhousing will let you keep the na pressure plate, flywheel and starter. the t2 trannies have a different input shaft so you need a custom disc, act has one.
otherwise you need a t2 starter, flywheel, and the whole clutch assy mike |
ACT has one???
what is this a website? tell me where i can find it beacause i have heard of it also just dont know where |
|
Just making sure..... S4 and S5 rotors weigh the same... (S4NA#=S4TII# and S5NA#=S5TII#) so this means that they are balanced the same.... correct????
Justin |
nope, 86-88 rotors are different then 89-02 rotors
mike |
S4NA#=S4TII# and S5NA#=S5TII#)
that is what i said.... Justin |
yes all s4 rotors are interchangeable weight wise, s5 rotors also, just within their series.
the compression ratios vary though. |
that is what i thought..
