hi guys, great forum here, picked up a 86 t2 a little under a month ago for dirt cheap, clean title blah blah blah. im having a problem. it was so cheap cause my friends dad didn't know what to do to get it running, so he sold it to me. from what we can piece together, the car hasn't been registered since 98, it has sat in a tow yard before being moved. the car does start, revs up to 2k, then dies. then the annoying buzzer for coolant goes off. i know that the back rotor is not firing. it is dumping a good bit of oil into the engine though (evident by the plugs when i pulled them out) also the oil runs out the manifold, throught the turbo and down the downpipe. basically the entire fuel system except for injectors is new, i haven't got to those yet to check them. also the plugs are new and we have checked the coils and wires for spark. thats is all good. so my q's go like this

1.) why is it leaking so much oil into the engine?

2.) why is the back rotor not firing? (could be apex or corner seal, no fuel, or flood?)

3.)last, on the lower radiator hose, where it connects to the block, the little outlet next to the hose that goes to the radiator, what goes there, im assuming a hose, but where does the hose go to. when i pour water down into the coolant system, it pours out of there like a faucet. is it a hose and where or is it suppose to be plugged?

thanks so much will have pics and vids soon if needed.

oil runs out the manifold? where exactly???

"then the annoying buzzer for coolant goes off" You should fix that rad leak 1st, who cares where that niple goes at this point, plug the hole and fill it up. NEVER RUN A ROTERY ENGINE WITH NO WATER!!.

"it is dumping a good bit of oil into the engine though (evident by the plugs when i pulled them out)" ------Are these new plugs or are you assuming the old ones where dry? rotarys burn oil and crappy plugs are part of the deal after 4k

"1.) why is it leaking so much oil into the engine?" -----Cracked rear housing, Bad oil controol seal.

"2.) why is the back rotor not firing? (could be apex or corner seal, no fuel, or flood?)" ----If the plugs are oil fouled there garbage and will never fire again, get some new ones.

If it dosent fire then, it could be a number of things. do a compretion check to see whats going on inside the engine.

"3.)last, on the lower radiator hose, where it connects to the block, the little outlet next to the hose that goes to the radiator, what goes there, im assuming a hose, but where does the hose go to. when i pour water down into the coolant system, it pours out of there like a faucet. is it a hose and where or is it suppose to be plugged?" ----- Thats hose goes to the heater, there is a metal line about 6in away on the body. thats where it goes.

thanks so much, yes the plugs are new, and the oil is coming from numerous places. mainly it seems to be out of were gaskets are suppose to be. can't recall if i said it or not, but the car hasn't done anything to my knowledge except get towed since 98. but the oil runs down the manifold from were it bolts up to the turbo, also it drips out of were the downpipe meets up with the cat. when i pull both leading plugs out, the rear one is covered in oil, the front one has a good bit of deposits, like there was oil on it and the electrical current from the spark solitified it on the plug, i haven't pulled the trailing to see if it is the same thing. compression check will be next...... hoping for six 90's or anything close, but i think a temporary engine is in store and rebuilding the one that is in it now.

sorry didn't think about it till i go home, i dont think it could be the rear housing for my oil problem because both rotors are a good amount of oil in them so........ and yes the hose will be on soon before any start ups.
