do i need to do any mods to the taurus fan to install?
The taurus fan fits pretty well, some slight cutting to the plastic cowl is required. I have moved to a 16" Spal fan with a custom aluminum shroud, it's pretty sweet but much more expensive than the Taurus fan. If you're looking for function, not beauty, the Taurus fan should be fine. I have one laying around the garage, PM me with an offer if you want it. |
explain why you need an electrical fan? clutch fan works better anyways, it just not as "pretty".
|
stock s4 alternator and taurus e-fan are not that great a combo, just keep the stock fan set up
|
If you can find a radiator fan from a 91+ MR2, those things are very powerfull. You could feel the air being sucked in through my front mount when both fans were on.
|
that taurus fan is no joke either
|
The stock fan does a very good job, unless there is something severly wrong I wouldn't ditch it. That said the fans listed will do the job well. They will put a large drain on the alternator if you have the stock one. If you do convert you will need a temperature sensor to tell the fan when to come on.

i cant use the stock fan setup, it wont fit..... i have a koyo radiator from an s5........any ideas
the taurus fan draws that many amps...??? will it work with the stock alt. if i remove other things, such as the radio, a/c, H.I.Ds, and anything else i can think of that i dont need? |
Go to a scrapyard and see what fits - you can also get little plastic tabs that slot through the fins that you can fix to.

how the hell can't you use the stock clutch fan, that makes no sense at all?
is there really a difference in the size of an s4 and s5 rad??? |

I wonder if the benefits of the radiator will be offset by the inability to use the stock fan
curious to know too. it just seems kind of silly that they were not the same size radiators. is it thicker, wider, longer? what is it???? |
its thicker than the stock radiator... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png its sits farher back than the stock unit |
I used a taurus E-fan on my old setup with the stock s4 alternator, and had problems keeping the battery charged at all. Even after a 4 gauge ground wire from battery to transmission. Depending on how reliabable your stock wiring harness is you may/not have problems. But I would at least recomend upgrading to an S6 alternator at some point.

use the dual Nissan Altima fans. They out-flowed SPAL and every other major brand. Unless you care about buying brand name

If you are looking for every ounce of performance you can get - going to efans is the smart chouice.
You get about 20pounds of rotating mass off of the engine. In my case (autocross) or even a drag racers case - you shut off the fans at the start line (assuming your engine isn't on the verge of overheating ( I am usuaaly about 170 at the line)) to reduce the alternater draw. And then turn the fans on when the run is over. If your car is just a daily driver or cruising machine I would never bother to do the conversion. However my twin 10" fans cool the rad MUCH better than the stock fan ever did |
the koyo is a little wider and longer and the rad cap is in a different position then on the s4. |
