hey guys, i know turbo is the way to be now-a-days...plus its pretty bad ass hearing it spool.....but i've been trying to find one for a bit and i can't....i have an 87 gxl wit headers pretty much stock.....i've heard from a couple guys that if i got carborated wit my n/a i would run pretty much like a stock turbo2....if i was to find a turbo2 they'd probally ask about 2500...so i would have to sell my car plus save about another 1000+....i was wondering if maybe anyone has heard or done the carb thing in a 2nd gen and see if it really improves that much.....i'm lookin for any type of advie on how to improve my car or if i should save and try for a turbo2 or if i should go carb....i'm goin crazy! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif !!......

don't carb your car..... keep the fuel injection. carb is good on a race car or big ported car..... FUEL INJECTION is better than carb anyday....

The racing beat conversion kit with your header will give a good power increase but they haven't said how much and I dont think it would be enough to hang with a TII.... that would be a 40 HP increase basically. Maybe with a streetport?

yea...thats what i've been figuring....theres this one guy around my block...he has carb, better ignition system, header and he supposly keeps up if not barely beats t2....hes not ported at all (supposly)......thats baiscally were i got the idea from.....any suggestions as far as making my car faster?

how fast do you want to go? There are some basic mods for those who want to go just faster like me (and who are broke) and then there are people who want to go FAST (like Vosko)... either way, if you have the available credit, let us know!

:bigok:

i baiscally wanna go fast enough to the point were i'm not taking licks from the only honda/acura car that can beat me....my boys low 15's high 14's gs-r.....only honda so far that gives me problems.....and when i say gives me problesm.....i mean gives me problems...lol....i'm hoping i can get atleast low 15s....

InfamousReX 12-23-2002 07:48 PM

p.s...worst part....I HAVE TO TURBO https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif

You don't have to to go low 15's, high 14's but it will be a lot easier, more streetable, and maybe cheaper.

InfamousReX 12-23-2002 08:03 PM

meaning?

FCmaniac 12-23-2002 08:08 PM

Most unibody Hondas are much lighter than FC's and FD's. I could run 15 flat in my 85 Honda but I could barely break into the 15's with my 7 even though it has over 50 more HP stock. I still am happy I got rid of my Honda's and went back to RX-7's.

Meaning you should buy a Turbo II or do a turbo swap if you want to go easy 14's and then faster when modded with less money.

InfamousReX 12-23-2002 08:14 PM

i dont think i could do this or it wouldn't be to good of an idea....but i'll ask......can i juz get the manifold and turbo of a t 2 or something and bolt it on my engine.....i just looked and the closes t2 around me is 100+ miles away and they want almost 4g's

I know what you mean.... I went through that for a while when I was looking for a Turbo II and then just bought an N/A.

I don't think you can just bolt up a T2 manifold and turbo because the rotors and housings are different with lower compression plus you would need upgraded fuel system, ECU, add intercooler and oil plumbing to support the turbo.

InfamousReX 12-23-2002 08:20 PM

yea i thought you would have to go through to much of a mission.....well i'm off for the night.....thanx for your help

1Revvin7 12-24-2002 01:25 AM

on my next 7, its gonna be carbed w/ nitrous!

pengaru 12-24-2002 02:00 AM

I don't see why carb would give any performance gain over efi unless your efi system is not performing properly... just have to tune the efi, and IMO the intake manifolds on the NA's in stock form are pretty poor castings, I'm wiling to bet a large part of any gains swapping out the stock efi for a carb is just due to replacing the manifolds with better units.

You can turbo the na motor, it's just a question of how determined and knowledgeable you are.... high compression turbo motors are very doable, and not necessarily a bad thing.

And it's not really that much cheaper to build a TurboII, get prices on upgraded turbos, intercoolers, fuel system parts, waste gates, blowoff valves, popoff valves, the **** is all expensive.... and in the end most people end up switching to aftermarket EMS and these transmissions are high mileage so even a built turboii will likely break some drivetrain parts and need them replaced/rebuilt... taking that all into account, in the end the costs are similar to building an NA or turning the NA into a turbo, even including replacing trans etc. Also, it's alot easier to find a clean NA RX-7 for a good price than a clean TurboII.

If it makes your car go faster, it costs. The only thing that is relatively cheap which can make you go fast is n2o... but it's not cheap after you blow up the motor. The same goes for turning up boost on turbo cars though, sure you can get more horsepower just by increasing boost... but if you're not smart you will detonate and spend a shitload more.
