When I start up my car in the morning or any other time it had a chance to cool down if I rev it some times it will throw out alot of smoke. I mean alot looks like a midgit crop duster https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blush.png , but other than that it never smokes. Do I have anything to worry about could something be going out? If i dont rev it cold it wont smoke and I know the remedy to this it to not rev it when it is cold but could this be a sign of something going bad. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.png

Most likely you have an oil control seal or side seal starting to go. Whats probably happening is that because the engine is not warm the seal isn't seating properly and allowing some oil to get by causing the car to smoke. Keep an eye on your oil pressure and check to see if you oil has a strong sent of gas . Check for the scent after you've done an oil change and driven the car for 100-200 miles. If your oil pressure drops, your oil smells of gas(after oil change and a couple hundred miles of driving), and the smoking gets worse then the seal has gotten worse and you will most likely need a rebuild in the next year to year and a half. I have these same problems right now and am planning on doing a rebuild by August of next year.

I've seen alot of rotary smoke at startup. Some being Oil, Some being Fuel... it should only last for about 15-20 seconds. Be very careful of how you are starting your car. Start it in gear so it disables the cold start feature. I always let my car sit for about a minute or so before i really start driving. And, never, NEVER ragg on a rotary when the engine is still cold. Any car for that fact, has more chance of breaking something when the casting is cold.



So i really wouldnt recommend revving your engine right after you start it. Just let her wake up..



Like someone above said, you probly have an oil seal going. The engine could well run for another 50,000 miles with no problem. Hell, my old engine ran 208,000 Smoked like crazy!! Startup, Racing, you name it..



Just take good care of your engine.. and change your oil religiously, you you should be ok



(I've seen Rebuilt rotary's smoke a little at start-up) It's the way the engines designed. Oil seeps down past the seals, and onto the plugs... when they are fired, it burns off real quick.

mine smokes also but i put hever oil in it it help (i think it was 50 weight ) but when it is wormed up she don't smoke at all ( i m haveing a very problem with the tires smokeing now https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R )

Mine used to do the regular few seconds of blue smoke on startup, but lately I haven't noticed it. I haven't changed weight of oil or anything and it's making me wonder about my oil injection system.



Is yours smoking when you let off after revving? If so it's probably rotor oil seals like the guys said above.

Yeah, if it is smokeing while coming down from the Rpm's (Like inbetween shifts)

Than it is more than likely your Oil Control Seals. Not much you can do about that. I tried everything in my old motor. Lucas, Mystery Oil. Nothing works. you'll have to break down and Rebuilt her



But if it's just the normal smoke at startup i wouldnt worry about it. Like i said earlier, it 'should' go away after 15-20 seconds. No more than that... Also...



Turbo cars require that you let them cool down before shutting them off. 'correct turbo heads??'



I do it in my N.A also.. especially after running her hard, and pulling in to my house. i never shut her down right away. i let her sit for about a min just to 'catch it's breath'



This lets the oil settle back down... other wise when you go to start her in the morning.. there will be some oil residue left on the plugs... And this is what causes 'smoke at startup' in the first place.
