Hello, my friend has a RX7 that will crank, and crank, and crank, but will not start.
However if he finds a hill, or gets a push, it will start and run great, if he pops the clutch. The car idles fine once started, and lots of power. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif It's a NA RX7, any ideas what the problem is? Thanks, James https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png |
its flooding. either bad plugs or leaky injectors or low compression. do a compression test first to see how healthy the engine is.

Sounds like its flooding to me. 86/88 NA Rx7s have a history of leaky injectors. You can try running some fuel injector cleaning through them, buy used injectors from another RX and test them, or I believe its MazdaTrix who sells the fuel injector "H" device that bleads leaking fuel back into the fuel line instead of the housings. Mazdatrix also has a great explanation for all of this. If you need more help PM me.

A fuel pump cutoff switch could also do the job. I put one on my friend's car, and that helped. You wire a switch into the positive fuel pump wire and leave it off when you crank the engine. After a few cranks flick the switch while cranking and it should start.
Another option would be to pull the EGI INJ fuse under the hood, crank the car a few times, replace the fuse, and start the car. |
If it is the injectors u could send them to RC engineering to have them checked out/cleaned or replaced like me https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

i hope its just injectors and not something else. my car was very screwed up bad tps, bad lower intake manifold gasket, bad AFM, and she wouldn't start for anything in the mornings. now it always starts and runs alot better. tempting to have my injectors sent out when ito pulls apart manifolds again

yep...its flooding. my car had the same problem. Still happens every once in a while. I found that instead of rigging up that fuel pump cut off switch, FLOOR the gas, open her all the way up, and the fuel autmatically cuts. I am sure they did this on the 88's , but i dont know about all of the years. A mechanic told me to try it, and it worked...
