Does the transmission front oil seal go into the tranny front cover? I can't see where else to put it. I also can't tell how it goes it, or how to get the old one out. Should I just try cutting the old one, then just shove the new one in?

Use a large socket the diameter of the seal to drive them in. Use the old ones as reference on how they go. Just pry the old ones out.



Use thread locker on the front cover bolts.

You remove this peice.



then fish out the old seal. lube the old seal with clean tranny oil so that it won't rip when it slides in. A thin thin dab of RTV on the flange would help a bit.



For the rear you just gently pry it out with a screw driver. The new one you lube with oil and slide it in with your fingers (push).

Is the seal on the front cover itself? That's what it looks like to me (I already have it off). The new seal looks to have a small brass-colored metal ring on it, but I can't see how that would fit in. Think they're different for turbo and n/a? I need to check to make sure I have the correct part.

The seal does go in the front cover. The pieces Cheers posted the pic of. It's obvious when you look at it. There are different sizes for the turbo and NA as the input shaft diameter is different.

Ahh, I was mixed up, the metal ring was on the rear tranny seal. They came out easily, and went in easily. I used the wooden handle of a hammer to press it in a bit, tight fit. Hopefully today I'll get my rear engine oil seal, and see how that goes in (also getting my tranny front cover gasket), then I can start with the flywheel and clutch stuff.
