Na and TII Reliable if stock. Na- reliable if modded. TII - reliable if modded _correctly_.

I have had my N/A since new. It is a 1987 GXL.



The only major work done on this car is 2 clutches and an engine rebuild. Well a paint job too but that was cosmetic not a reliability issue. This is in 163,000 miles.



The shocks and struts were stock. I changed them for a different look and ride but they still functioned fine.



The intake was changed, again by my choice, for HP gain and nothing else. The stock one functioned fine.



The cat back and cats were stock and were fine but I wanted to make more HP so I changed them.



Nothing else was ever needed except regular maintanence stuff like oil change, plug change, coolant change, stuff like that.



Very reliable.

I've heard of a few reliability mods for the FC's, but have never actually found out what they are, and I can't find them in the search engine...



Anyone care to elaborate?

Koyo or Fluidyne Radiator. Good mod. Cost about 300+.



That is really all I can think of.



Better intake and better exhaust. Not just for HP numbers, but helps the engine breath alot more, and adds more air flow, and having no cat converter pushes out all that exhaust out quicker. People usually do it for HP numbers from what I read. I would do it so my engine could breath. That would be costly if you buy everything new. You can find a cat back for sale used, for no more than 500 bucks I would say. I would just buy a drop in K&N filter for the air intake. But if you want to go cold air intake, or a intake pipe and filter by K&N or Bonez. I prefer K&N.

I've had my 91 n/a for over 5 years...over 70,000 miles in that time too. Daily driven and gets redlined at least twice a day during the commute. 26 separate 7 hour road trips. 40 separate 4 hour road trips. Still reliable as the day I bought it.



Here's what my maintenence has consisted of:



Oil changed ever 3K miles. Plugs, belts, tires, misc changed when they need it...and thats it! In the past year I had to replace the TPS sensor, and rebuild the brake calipers...but overall the car has never let me down https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png *knock on wood*



The car has been so reliable its crazy. I honestly have more faith in this car than I would purchasing something brand new.

It took you 5 years to do 70K miles? Damn.....I did 50k in a year and a half.



Reliability is all about keeping your car in good working order. There are some issues with the electrical system, but its a 14-18 yr old Mazda. Be happy most of the common electrical gremlins are only annoyances, not debilitating problems. Just take care of your car, and it will take care of you.



Aside from blowing mufflers and breaking transmissions, my FC has been more reliable than any other car in my family. Those two problems areas are my fault though.

Well, they are usually very reliable unless your name happens to be Dramon or even 4rotorrocket. Oh, almost forgot, if you're vosko you're probably screwed too.
