I have an 88 vert, never seen another one on the road, but in here they seem common.

also everytime i say to a mechanic/parts dealer when i say it is an 88 convertable with a 5 speed they say that they are realy rere and not to mess with it, keep it stock.

what have the rest of you seen about this car?

fc3sboy1 02-03-2007 07:07 PM

they are not that rare compaired to a 10ae or a 90gtus. if your goin to mod the car just enginer the modifications so that if the car becomes worth something to a collector you can restore it back to original. i myself try to do things that way but there comes a point when building a car that there is no turning back ya know.

I have an 88 vert too, and totally agree with fc3, carefull but remember it's your car and you should do what you want.

j9fd3s 02-03-2007 08:30 PM

seems like they are more common than coupe's around here, big difference, is the extra weight, other than that its just a regular fc. vert is always nice though

rowtareh 02-04-2007 01:44 AM

Nah, nothing special really. In most states aside from CA, NYC, Jerzee, you won't see that many rx-7's. I've only seen two while in town, and I pass one that is sitting in a driveway on my way to work.

evileagle 02-04-2007 07:40 AM

For some reason, I never see verts on the road, but they are CONSTANTLY for sale around everywhere.

jds88vert 02-04-2007 08:42 AM

I just kinda walked into mine after trying to buy a couple other cars, but I can say that I love this car, totally sweet to drive, I haven't seen any around here at all but I have seen a couple of other fcs, too bad most have been falling apart.

jwteknix 02-04-2007 10:19 AM

turbo vert FTW!!!!

teknics 02-04-2007 11:51 AM

i dunno, the only for sale ads i ever see locally are people selling verts....normally stupidly high price tags on them for no reason lol.

Actually.... there's nothing but coupes, out here.... also, consider that I'm one of about four FC owners, on Ft. Sill.... there's five FD's, 2 FB's, and about 10 or 12 RX-8's.

But, I'll disagree with anyone who says a vert is rare... just look on Autotrader.com, and you'll see. It's the 88GTU, the 10th Anniversary, and the GTUs, that are rare, and valuable. I'd like to have one of each, if I can at all help it.

teknics 02-05-2007 05:39 PM

10th anny, rare? bleh, i can find a new one every week if i was so inclined to get an s4 t2.

i see less real s5 t2's then 10ae's

agreed. there is one, hell I think 2-3 on ebay right now. not counting the **** over at the club for sale.

finding a CLEAN stock car is harder than anything. but out of most, i see FD's mainly. FD= Financial Disaster.

TheRonin 02-05-2007 07:10 PM

hey.... I'm a by-the-numbers kinda guy.... I do see a lot of 10AE's... but, I also know there were only 1500 of them, to begin with.

I don't don't know the production numbers for the 88 GTU (2000-2500 sounds about right, though)... but, I've only physically seen 5 of them, including the one I owned.

slvrwng2000 02-05-2007 08:02 PM

Ok does anyone know how to get the production numbers for 88. or know the numbers?

rowtareh 02-05-2007 08:07 PM

yes, 1500 of the 10ae's were made, but they are not ANYTHING different aside from the regular s4 t2's. wow, badging, interior, and the gold fade on the windshield. i don't see how that makes it different, but I guess it does. oh and not to mention the noble white paint which seems to fade on most of them.

i find that the 87-88 GTU is the rarest to find in exceptional, stock condition. and I mean stock!

and i have the production numbers for the s4 and s5's in a book at home. i will post them tonight unless somebody else responds.

the reason why you don't see them is there was not that many made. i think in the 2nd gen era, they sold 600k or so. ford was selling that many f series trucks. IN A YEAR!

DeMoe Aurelius 07-08-2009 08:08 PM

Hit vegasrotay.com I have a 88 vert and a few of the other guys have verts to!!!

Rob x-7 07-09-2009 05:59 AM

NO WAY!

GreyGT-C 07-09-2009 04:31 PM

hell, i have an 88 vert that i'm thinking about taking to the scrap yard and crushing.

Rob x-7 07-09-2009 06:11 PM

dont do that

GreyGT-C 07-09-2009 06:24 PM

but i can't find the key to it.

Rob x-7 07-09-2009 06:55 PM

remove the trunk lock, locksmith will make the key from that.

Not the door lock- does not have enough information.

My locksmity charges me about $25 and makes 2 keys to go along with it.

JITB 07-09-2009 11:20 PM

i see alot! of verts down south..

GreyGT-C 07-10-2009 10:32 AM

Rob... i was joking about the key. The car is in *BAD* shape but has a few salvageable parts and panels. If i ever get the free time... i'm gonna strip it down and get rid of it.

1CriticalRx7 07-13-2009 03:09 PM

hey i got an 88 drop top https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683329.gif

Charliewalter 12-03-2009 12:17 AM

I gots me one too.Its a nice car when your young.Having a harder time getting in and out.I thought for sure these would be collectable.

To bad looks like there selling real cheap and most are in bad shape. Its hard to keep the vert top from tearing and HOW DO YOU FIX ALL THOSE LEAKS?https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...ault/blush.gif

89 Rag 12-04-2009 02:32 AM

Buż an new aftermarket top, amd do it yourself or have a top specific shop do the install. If you can find seals replace them otherwise you have to refurbish the ones you have. Believe it or not the winshield moulding even plays a part when it comes to deflection of wind driven rain from driving. I replaced the top on mine 5 years ago and haven't had a leak since

thatpoorguy 12-04-2009 08:26 AM

there's a vert in peru, indiana, i only see the guy at the golf course or his house though :/

I think it was, how do you remember that when I hardly can? I guess it did make an impression : )

Its still a trophy winning pavement princess showcar that I rub with a diaper, but I don't take it out as much as I used to>

75 Repu 12-18-2009 04:18 PM

your vert is immaculate!! I still remember people gawking at it.. That cloth top looks sooo much better that the vinyl one.

Remember that old lady touching your car at Sevenstock... that was hilarious..

That was a nightmare, she must've had three big gawdy rings on each finger too!

I would have bashed her in the temple if she touched it.

Didn't you grab her hand and lead her away at the last minute?

I did that, the smith wanted a door lock and the trunk lock, he made 2 keys for about the same price as yours.

BjornWindom 09-20-2011 08:53 AM

i have a 88 convertible, the rare ones are the ones that was made in 87 they were sold as a 88 but threw some research you can find out if yours is a 87. i have one of them they made i think 875 or something like that and i just changed the original fuel filter on it

RicerJ 09-20-2011 09:24 PM

RobertWhite 09-22-2011 08:47 AM

Idk I've seen 3 verts ever. 2 s4 and my s5

EnayEx7 10-08-2011 07:21 PM

its easier to find a vert fc here in los angeles. ive seen a couple of cars in immaculate condition with only 40k-80k miles go for only 2-3k although hardtop fcs are a lot more common on the road

rx 075 11-08-2011 03:25 AM
