I plan to get a turbo engine and swap it with my na within the next couple of months, and I'm wondering how long my trannsmission will hold up to the extra torque. We're talking about under 3000 rpm normal driving, with the occasional race, like a few times every couple weekends. So maybe 4 times a month. Normally I wouldn't even be boosting very much at all. I would eventually change to a t2 tansmission, since I'm planning mods to get like 250 rwhp. What about the rear end?
Don't bother trying to keep me from going turbo, (it is a GTUs) I've made up my mind. The only way to get the power I'm looking for is a bridgeport, and that's just too extreme. |
for the price of a used TII tranny, why bother if you are going to go thru the trouble of swapping engines and ecus?

the answer is it depends. if you are dropping the clutch and drag racing it it wont last very long. if you arent dumping the clutch, and banging gears it should last a long time, the miata guys run 11's on the same tranny design. the na tranny shifts better and it lighter too

realistically you should just change the drivetrain and rear end if swappin the engine
ive seen people just having to go through the trouble of doing just a short while after the swap, but then again alot more expensive |
as mike says depends on how you use it, in your case if you don't drop the clutch you should be fine. If you ever do swap to a t2 tranny get the driveshaft and rear end too, they can handle way more power and you can't mismatch the t2 tranny with the n/a rear end unless you want to make custom stuff.

This is the new craze huh? Everyones doing it now. Whats next?

I'm staying N/A, I know my car won't be as fast as my friends heavy street port Turbo II, but I think I can stay close once I build my engine, or so i can hope. :yum:
