What do you need to look for on the turbo to tell if its stock or an upgraded stock turbo? Pics would be especially nice.
|
well the obvious tip off is if they used a different compressor housing.
you can sometimes tell if the stock housing is been machined because the lip the tid goes onto gets really thin, and its very thick stock (mines not even centered!) |
The compressor doesn't look stock? I dunno i guess though for taht you'dhave to know what the stock compressor looks like. uhm...i cant think of anything i'll look at my turbo and come back later.

i have a stock s4 i can take a pic of later, DONT LET ME FORGET, unless it doesnt matter

It's rather apparent. Even if the stock housing is retained, you'll easily be able to tell the difference between one that has been milled for a larger wheel and a stock housing.
Here's a comparison between a BNR stage II and a stock HT-18 http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...d/f97c94cc.jpg Image station is being a turd burgler, so just right click the picture and enter the url into your browser. |
Its showing up for me. Thanks, btw.

this is a stock s4. notice how the inlet "flange" is kinda thick, and not centered? if you bore out the stock housing for a larger wheel ( h trim cough cough) that gets real thin. |
Thats just what I was looking for. Thanks. Bigger compressor housings are easier to spot than bored stock housings.
|
theoretically i can take a picture of a bored out stock housing, but thats more than walking out to the gay-raj

But, if youre bored, it may help someone else out. |
Okay, I'm a little bored. Here's pics of mine before and after. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

And the upgrade....

That red tubing is for the stock setup for the internal wastegate. It still looks a lot like that, but now there's a manual boost controller in the line. Seems to me an external wastegate would still require a pressure line to the wastegate actuator. |
sorry to thread jack, but where do u get thoes housings, and what kinda numbers are they good for??
