If you plan on asking this in here plan on lots of negative feedback.1Revvin7 is doing this swap and should be able to help you out tho. Most people will tell you just to buy a T2 and save your self the millions of headaches it will cause you but it's personal preference when it comes right down to it.

1Revvin7 12-29-2002 01:34 PM

You're also gonna need the entire t2 drivetrain, and dash wiring harness, t2 MAF, t2 fuel pump or aftermarket, t2 knock and pressure sensors, FMIC or t2 hood, TID. Its not that hard to do, especially if your passion is cars and working on them, Im not too hot on all the wiring deal since I made it a lot less complicated by buying a haltech. The hardest part is putting in the new rear end and halfshafts. Just make sure you buy an n/a fc with 5 lug wheels, so you won't have to upgrade those, and ofcourse find one with a blown engine. Make sure you got time, tools, a garage, space heater, and some $$$, i have spent like and extra grand alteast on small things.

Rotaryman88 12-29-2002 05:01 PM

He's right w/ most the stuff...I converted my rear end and still kept the 4lug for now...took some um.."creativity" though. I havent got the t2 pressure and knock sensors...but revvin...you have haltech right..do you still need to have the pressure sensor & knock sensor..i thought the haltech handled those???

Oh...and i'm glad to hear you had to change your dash harness too, I don't feel so along now, lol..that thing was a BIATCH!

Rotaryman88 12-29-2002 05:03 PM

We are very similar Revvin...when did you start your conversion, i dont remember????

vosko 12-29-2002 05:15 PM

haltech has its own map sensor. you don't need the knock sensor for haltech either

1Revvin7 12-29-2002 05:35 PM

This brings about some question I have, Why would you need to change the dash harness? is it because it won't plug into the t2's ecu? And no Rotaryman88, i do not have the stock pressure or knock sensor. And I don't need to change the dash harness AAHHAAHAHAH!!!!!! I love my haltech https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png I started the conversion about late June/July. Whos gonna win the race to get it done? And you're also 18, damn I though there was no one else close to my age doing this... :bigthumg:

That was my thought....

Yea, I had to change the dash harness because I went from an S4 NA to an S5 T2...if I went from an S4 to S4 it would have worked, or an S5 to S5...but the plugs changed on the ECUs for the S5s. However, it doesn't matter if the dash harness you get is from a turbo model or not unless you use a turbo instrument cluster. I used a dash harness and instrument cluster from an '89 GTU.

I NEED HALTECH DAMNIT! How old r u revvin? You will probably win...the fact that I only need oil lines seems to much like a dream to me...

1Revvin7 12-29-2002 06:02 PM

Thought so, i was thinking why the hell would i have to change a dash harness if im using the same dash, I just bought some defi gauges and same myself a pain in the ass! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683894.gif Haltech https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683894.gif And now they got that E11 out, I should have waited 1 month, o well same thing but a dat bit better. Im 18. :smirk: I only need fuel rails, well actually the $$$ to buy them, ahah. I could put it together if I wanted to run the stock injectors, but naw... No rush, its winter. You need oil lines? I have a pair of used stock ones from my new motor. Or are you looking to get the Rb ones?

Rotaryman88 12-29-2002 06:10 PM

Yea, I was looking to get the RB SS ones...not the ones that you need the extra fittings for though...no use in that...but I just spent 19K on my protege and christmas and such...money was hurting, lol...AND I'm still in college, lol and paying for that. I get paid this upcoming friday but I need to pay back some bills, if I can get ahold of atkins and return my core, they'll refund me my $500 which will be more then enough for my oil lines. I'm running stock injectors and stock rails for the breakin period, but once I get my refund from atkins, i'm buying the 1600cc secondaries, custom rail and and putting 720cc primary. What all do you have done to your block? Stock internals?

1Revvin7 12-29-2002 06:17 PM

Yes, my motor has stock internals. I had to buy those extra fittings when i couldn't figure out why it wouldn't fit, ahah! Stupid IMO that you have to buy extra fittings. When are you gonna work on your website? Damn you got loot, how the hell do you afford that new protege? did u get the mazdaspeed one? I'm still a senior in highschool, ahah.

Rotaryman88 12-29-2002 06:34 PM

The 1320 website has been untouched for a little while because I have maxed out on webspace, i spent some extra $$ to get rid of those damn banners, and so far, my partners in the club havent pitched in anything...so oh well....I'm actually working on a howto for converting a NA to T2 but it wont be done for a lil while....

....as for my loot, I work from 4 to 11 everyday but Fri and sunday making $9.35 an hour...i have student loans covering most of my college, I got a bank loan for the rx7 stuff, and I got Mazda Credit to finance my protege, lol...its an ES model, no turbo but still nice. I pay about $320 a month on that, plus insurance and school..i'm usually only left w/ about $20 a month, lol...thats why i need this damn core refund from atkins, once i get my checking account bumped up it'll be easier to save money...and I plan to race the rx7 to help out in its debt, lol. I have no credit cards though...i refuse to right now...to play hard, ya gotta work hard...and thats what i do. Oh, and i have no life outside of the rx7/school/and work, lol.... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/violin.gif

Rotaryman88 12-29-2002 06:37 PM

Oh...i was gonna ask...i saw you got the haltech and the upgraded turbo, but why didnt you opt for beefed internals...or was there a choice? Just curious...I mean..the haltech is great for tuning, and the turbo you've got will be a nice boost...but it all seems overkill on a stock block....

1Revvin7 12-29-2002 06:39 PM

thats because I got this block for $1300 ahahhhah! And i had no core https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

Rotaryman88 12-29-2002 06:55 PM

Ahh...i knew there was a good reason. That's cool though...the stock 2mm 3pc seals will take 20psi with very good tuning AKA haltech...but if you ping just once, it could be fatal...start running rich and work your way down, its safer, lol....

1Revvin7 12-29-2002 07:13 PM

IM gonna have a shop tune my car on a dyno, then I will retune it on the street, find tune. Its gonna be a blast. When I do go big ass turbo, probably the gt 35/40 bb, I will completey re-do everything, with a ported, pinned completey new motor, that won't be for a long time though. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

okisil80 12-29-2002 07:14 PM

ok thanks, i think ill stick with the turbo at least that way ill have a spare engine and ill be able to piece everything together while i can still drive the car. by the way how hard is it to tune the haltect and whats the price like? i was planning on getting a power fc while i was here but it is pretty expensive, you have to speical order it for the fc. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif

1Revvin7 12-29-2002 07:23 PM

You can get a E6k for about 1200 complete package, they are the most user friendly from what everyone else says.

Stock seals are the best, 3mm are just crutches for those you can't tune. Its all about the tuning, not the seals. Thats why I got a haltech, and I'm gonna get a wideband o2 soon.

I am almost done with my swap, motor is in, haltech is wired, cept I can't get a good connection to the haltech https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png Some other small stuff to do. I am using stock turbo for right now with a 2 row front mount and 1600cc x 2 secs. I started 12/19/02 and I will be finished in the next week or two. Oh and I am 16 years old https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Rotaryman88 12-30-2002 09:59 PM

We've also got an ecu discussion section.

Suds 01-07-2003 02:33 PM

I have done this swap, dropped a s5 t2 block in my 91 na, wired up the haltech (still trying to get it running), bought a T04E kit, and FJO wideband, buncha other stuff too https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

It was easy as cake, except I don't have the right laptop for the job (apparently it is too good? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR )

Suds 01-07-2003 02:43 PM

Hey revvin, how are you doing the tps on the haltech?

Suds 01-07-2003 02:52 PM

I think a good answer to the original question would be, if you do it right you get a car better than a stock t2 for about the same as upgrading a t2 to a similar level.

djgiantrobot 01-07-2003 02:55 PM

okisil80: there is an FC powerfc on yahoo auctions japan right now for like 600, i saw it last night.

1Revvin7 01-07-2003 03:05 PM

I got jacked by rotormotorsports, I didn't get a hatlech tps with it, So I still need to order one of those, Are u talking about wiring or mounting it suds? I haven't even looked into it, I just need to wire that and the fuel injectors and the haltech is done. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png So is this motor rebuilt suds?

Suds 01-07-2003 03:15 PM

Mounting https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Nope its a Jspec! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

I have 3k left to rebuild it though, just wanna run it before I rebuild it

1Revvin7 01-07-2003 03:16 PM

Suds 01-07-2003 03:20 PM

1Revvin7 01-07-2003 03:23 PM

I was wondering how someone ur age could afford that, props on making some loot urself. So where are those pixs at? I threw up some pixs in the single turbo discussion thread...

Suds 01-07-2003 03:57 PM

I'll get some up!

Rotaryman88 01-07-2003 07:13 PM

I'm pixless right now, sorry guys. It's bad snowing for the last few days here in Va and today it was finally nice enough to photo shoot, but I had to get the oil changed in my piston powered mazda before I came into work, I hate changing oil in the snow...stoopid piston cars.

Oh yea revvin, maybe I'll just buy all the haltech TPSs in the world, THEN maybe I'll beat ya! :smirk:
