there is no reason to do that https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif the clutch in is just that, a saftey feature, and is there for a reason. leave it. if your really that annoyed with it, there's a switch behind the assembly somewhere that you have to ground out i think and it'll stay activated all the time, personaly, i think anyone who want's to get rid of that is a tard, mine has saved me from alot of trouble

Cheers! 03-23-2005 06:50 AM

just bypass the switch and have it always see 12V

extremefc3s 03-23-2005 07:24 AM

I have a brand new master cylinder and a brand new slave cylinder for my 88 GTU if you want them make me an offer.

1988RedT2 03-23-2005 08:04 AM

I've daily driven a stick for 15 years and I've never found that particular safety feature to be an inconvenience. It just becomes automatic after awhile. Unless you've only got one leg or something.

Sure you can defeat it, but I'd leave it alone. The ass you save could be your own.

j9fd3s 03-23-2005 08:36 AM

that "saftey" "feature" is only found on the north american cars, i find that a little insulting. bypass the switch and prove to the world you're not a moron!

Baldy 03-23-2005 08:38 AM

Is that feature on the s4? I know I don't have to hold my clutch in, but then again there are a bunch of things on my car that don't function properly.

I'm loving all the " '86 exceptions"

You can ground the switch like others said, or you can remove the whole thing. i have been running the car without it for a year or so, not because I choose to, but because the switch failed on me!

The switch cables goes to a plug behind the driver side kickpanel, unplug it, and either make a loop cable, or cut them and splice the cables. I used a 12G (that all I had at the time it ailed) 3 inches long cable, I then crimped one spade conector on each end of the cable.

It is also is a kick-out for the cruise control.

That leaves you with the brake switch & the dash button.

donhayes 03-23-2005 02:40 PM

THere is no point to removing it. I took mine out thinking it wasn't working right but it ended up as the starter. I still use the clucth to start up the car. Its just easier that way. But what they are saying works so good luck. Just try and not do it when its snowing on you and your car is stuck in the middle of the driveway. That really sucks.

yeah but i dont have to push my clutch in to start my car and its a 91... but if i push the clutch in the CC disables

89 Rag 03-23-2005 09:47 PM

Disable the clutch swith? that's a great idea, run out in your garage because you are in a hurry, stick the key in and crank it over, not realizing that you had left the car in gear the night before, CRASH, now you get to fix your car and the wall between the garage and the utility room.

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...withstupid.gif that's exactly what i nearly did a couple times, i only saved my ass cause i sometimes keep my foot on the brake

wolfgang 03-23-2005 10:17 PM

after my engine lost compression, I used the starter to "drive" my S4 into the garage where it was getting rebuilt... I found it handy to not have the idiot switch.. I also don't have a wall directly behind my S4, problem solved....

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif I never have to touch the clutch to start mine.

gentlejax2 03-24-2005 06:25 AM

well I am not going to mess with it for now. I replaced my clutch master cylinder last night and no more leak so I guess the clutch start thing doesnt matter either.

I dont understand how you guys learned how to drive but I have been driving for 20 years and I ALWAYS and I MEAN ALWAYS! check to see if a car is in gear BEFORE I try to crank it unless it is a auto.

I dont know where it became necessary to have the clutch switch thing.

yes, I see where it would happen and the car might crash into a wall but like I said I grew up learning how to crank a stick and none of them cars ever came with a clutch switch.

that is pretty odd that none of the other versions outside US had this...

for now I will leave it.

thanks for letting me know it can be done.

then its been bypassed!

Veritas 03-25-2005 10:40 PM

yeah the people who leave their car in gear when they shut it off and do it purposely i've alwas thought were idiots..... for that exact same reason of starting it up and flying some direction because you didn't pa enough attention to how you shut your car off.

Latch 06-22-2005 04:12 PM

The Miata crowd likes to bypass this. From FlyinMiata.com:

"When you press on your clutch pedal to start the car, you're putting a fair load on your thrust bearing with no oil pressure. With an aftermarket clutch, it's even worse."

As far as I can think.....not a problem in a rotary.

Idiots? Are you kidding?

You completly trust the parking brake?

Thats why you leave it in gear...in case the parking brake slips or fails.....

Man, if somebodys car rolled into mine because the brake failed or not on tight enough and it was out of gear....I would say....they are the idiot.

fc3s4utnv 06-22-2005 06:48 PM

That is why you make sure your brakes are up to par, if you dont do that YOU are a moron. I have had mine disabled for over a year, I did mine for the remote start, bc in the winter I like for my car to be warm when I get into it.

Ricer240sx 06-23-2005 12:38 PM

dont know if this was covered or not, don know if u care either, but by bypassing the slutch to strart im pretty sure the shift lite will be disabled.......i know it never comes on for me casue i leave my foot on the clutch pedal and its always pushed in (taking up the play before the clutch is engaged) just a little fyi https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

and this is seriouls WAY too much of a thread for someone asking how to disable to clutch to start lol

fc3s4utnv 06-23-2005 07:56 PM

Mine still works.

Ricer240sx 06-24-2005 02:05 AM

well slap me silly and call me susan!!

75 Repu 06-24-2005 02:15 PM

**Slap** Hey Susan..

I will leave that alone on my car till i have to fix it.. then i will just fix its.. its become a habit i dont even notice it.. even on a car that does not have this feature i always push in the pedal..

And J9 is right.. cars in central america usually dont have this unless they were shipped from north america.

75 Repu 06-24-2005 02:16 PM

Oh and I think the thrust bearing **** is stupid..

fc3s4utnv 06-24-2005 05:09 PM

Well my button went bad, and when I took it out, I couldnt get it buck up their so I just left it out.
