its a good newbie question but i was just wondering because i've never really felt the experiance of getting into boost in a car so i mean if anyone can tell me the basics and if anyone could also tell me the best and easyiest way to find out that my turbo isn't siezed up.

rfreeman27 08-03-2003 01:07 AM

1) rapid acceleration

2) loud hissing noise from right side of engine

you will know...

rfreeman27 08-03-2003 01:08 AM

ohand a boost gauge helps so you know what psi you are hitting

TyresmokinRx7 08-03-2003 01:10 AM

I was about to say, Get a boost gauge. Dam too slow

rotary>piston 08-03-2003 04:38 AM

if you don't feel anything you've got serious problems. Boost is a very distinct feeling. You'll know if your getting it.

j9fd3s 08-03-2003 12:01 PM

yah unless something is wrong, just hand over the keys....

MazdaEnthused 08-03-2003 02:54 PM

whats the hand over the keys part mean?

MazdaEnthused 08-04-2003 11:49 AM

BlazeRedFC3S 08-05-2003 12:38 AM

What does boost feel like?

Imagine having an orgasm, but you don't have to clean up afterwards.

BigTurbo74 08-05-2003 12:52 PM

haha i was just gonna say an orgasm... like "umm is this it, no is this it?no is this...OHHHH ****"

UniqueTII 08-05-2003 12:56 PM

Here's the description of vosko's turbo spooling that I gave my friends.

1 thousand rpms...2 thousand rpms....3 thousa...OH MY GOD WHAT'S GOING ON?!?!?!

If it doesn't feel at least slightly like that, something's up.

MazdaEnthused 08-05-2003 12:58 PM

lol hell yea i mean i drove the car down my street and drove it pretty hard with one of my friends in it and he bout pissed his pants along with me... and ever since hes trying to get his 78 Starefire GT to beat my car and hes always asking me "if i did this would it beat your car" and i keep telling him that he would need to put about 15k into his 6cyl. in order to beat mine.... and about 3 of my friends all are trying to find RX7s and one even bought an FD

MazdaEnthused 08-05-2003 01:00 PM

thats another question of mine... at what rpm does the stock turbo spool up so i can expect it. and is there something on this forum of the basic "turbo Terms"

UniqueTII 08-05-2003 01:11 PM

The stock turbo with no leaks spools pretty low, like 2750.

MazdaEnthused 08-05-2003 01:21 PM

untill what rpm ? all the way up?

WishIhadaRX7 08-05-2003 01:28 PM

Ummm yeah till you shift.

WishIhadaRX7 08-05-2003 01:29 PM

And it makes a hissing noise, then you start over again.

MazdaEnthused 08-05-2003 01:33 PM

is there anywhere on the forums it can tell me the basics of turbos like spooling up and the terms and ****

UniqueTII 08-05-2003 01:36 PM

Try the FAQ, although I'm not really sure what's in there, because I know everything. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

MazdaEnthused 08-05-2003 04:03 PM

lol that wasn't conseedid but i will check the FAQ but is there like a Turbo FAQ?

JTurtonRX_7 08-05-2003 07:21 PM

here ya go

MazdaEnthused 08-05-2003 07:35 PM

ugh its sooo high i hate it....

my mr2 spooled at 2400 ..... but oh well i guess thats the price you pay when you have a bigger turbo

MazdaEnthused 08-05-2003 07:43 PM

what you mean its so high you hate it... and if the stock turbo spools up at like 2750 does that mean that if i dump the clutch for a launch at 3000 rpms that i'm launching with boost? and when your in nuetral and reving is the turbo still spooling at that rpm?

WishIhadaRX7 08-06-2003 07:57 AM

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif What about the turbo spools at about 2750 do you not understand? How would you stop the turbos from spooling if you were revving the engine? Turbos are exhaust driven, meaning if you are making exhaust then you are driving the turbo.

MazdaEnthused 08-06-2003 12:31 PM

thanks for the attitude dick head... there was no need for that... somtimes i can be stupid so bare with me

WishIhadaRX7 08-06-2003 02:03 PM

Dude, I don't have an attitude, just use your damn head once in a while, will you? Do you seriously mean to tell me that until the other day you had absolutely no idea at the theory behind how turbochargers work (ie exhaust driven)?

FrestyleFC3S 08-06-2003 02:16 PM

dude cmon hes learning

not everyone knows about a turbo - think all saab turbo ladys know what that noise is or whatever

i used to mess with him but i think its great that hes 16 and this is his first car...let alone a project car....not many 16 year olds pick up a project FC turbo for their first car

hes learning a lot while hes doing it too so its good

at least hes 1 step ahead and has an rx7

WishIhadaRX7 08-06-2003 02:22 PM

LOL, I understand he is learning but just from the number of posts he has you can tell he spends a decent amount of time on the forum. How could you not pick up on how turbos work as much as they are discussed, and with as many pictures as are thrown up here? Yeah, yeah he has a 7, but if I found a deal like that I would too. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/tongue.png

MazdaEnthused 08-06-2003 11:45 PM

well i did know that a turbo charger compresses air i didn't know however that it was exhaust driven untill i went into the "single turbo discussion" where i printed off many pictures and diagrams of the turbo chargers. yes i am on here alot because latly i've needed alot of help with certain things that i had NO CLUE of untill i hit this forum and people sorounded me with help and sugestions. and i will admit.... i didn't not know how much car i had and what i was getting into when i bought the car (i knew it was a project that was going to take me a while though) but i had absoulutly no idea of its rotory engine. But this car and this forum has opened me up to a whole new world of automotiveness... and this turbo just opened me up to whole differant automotive situation as well. i donno thats my view on this stuff... i love it... love to be around cars... i mean **** sometimes i'll just sit in my car and dream ... and look and stare at it for a half hour at a time (as bad as that sounds) and for all of you that are giving me that help thank you so much it really helps alot... and i can take a little criticizam (spelled that wrong) and dont mind it but seriously trying to make fun of somone and there efforts to learn is kinda dumb.
