ILUVMY88CABRIO 12-05-2002 02:35 PM

So when are you going to swap it in? This weekend? You should try to get it done before the Krispy Kream meet up and you can come down with Travis and me.

phinsup 12-05-2002 02:50 PM

HA yea that meet is like a block from my house. Not sure what's down that weekend. Yea I am goign to try to, if I can get a look at my other tranny I am not sure if this tranny is out of an 86-88 or an 89-91 it has no crossmember so I am not sure, I may have to track down the s5 corss member. Does anyone know if the s4 tranny or the s5 tranny has the two bolt holes in the bottom?

Rob x-7 12-05-2002 03:03 PM

If its only a block away you could always push your car there and stand next to it if your tranny problems arent worked out.

phinsup 12-05-2002 03:07 PM

Well it's a block away from my place it's about 40 miles from where the car is right now LOL

Rob x-7 12-05-2002 03:10 PM

Ah, a wrench in my plan already

Speaking of wrenches I hope you invest in a nice Gear Wrench to get that tranny out, youll never use normal wrenches again.

norotor_nomotor 12-05-2002 03:45 PM

gear wrenches are the box end wrenches with the ratchet correct??

The tranny is out, take me about 40 minutes yank one at this point... I have done a few. I use air tools, screw the wrench **** https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

But I do have a set of the gear wrench stubbies and longs.

pengaru 12-05-2002 05:14 PM

j9fd3s 12-05-2002 05:20 PM

LOL...gutter thread...are you putting a mustang gearbox in you rx7..i have heard of this conversion (shooting the **** with some old skool street racers) and what are its benefits. Other than a stronger gearset. I only know hewland's..but they are way to expensive for me https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/violin.gif

You can get to all the bolts with air tools on the bellhousing?

phinsup 12-06-2002 02:22 PM

Yup, got a little 3/8 in drive impact and a u-joint! Gotta have a u-joint, then a scredriver for the funky bolt at the top and you need a nice long extension.

Rob x-7 12-06-2002 02:27 PM

Ah, only time I came close to the transmission on one of these was when Jim was putting the engine in my other convertible and I helped him snug the bolts up.

Turbo II 12-06-2002 02:28 PM

when i replaced my clutch it took me 2 days to put my tranny back in. im such a loser

phinsup 12-06-2002 02:32 PM

Yea like I say, I have done it a few times, I have the removal to under an hour and it takes me about an hour or so to get it back in.

Rob x-7 12-06-2002 02:32 PM

Jim throws them in and out like a set of spark plugs, he doesnt even use a jack, lol

j9fd3s 12-06-2002 02:54 PM

we dont use a jack either, two people to put it in though

mike

vosko 12-06-2002 04:45 PM
