My transmission gets really hot after a drive...not a short one, yet long for a Hawaii drive(10miles+), I know most people in the mainland don't think 10miles is far but for Hawaii its a 1/4 of the island practically :-D.

Well the shift boot has a rip and some pretty hot air comes up from there, and the shifter itself gets hot, I can hold it still but its REALLY warm. like a cold winternight(if had um) I would enjoy it. Yet with hawaiis heat this is not really pleasent.

What could be wrong?

i had the same exact thing going on.

tons of hot air came through the rip in the shifter boot.

i never worried. i changed my gear oil and it ddit the same thing so i didnt think twice about it

ic, so only changing the boots can help cool the biyatch down?

my other RX7 is stripped to nothing, there is no outer or inner boot, yet its still **** loads cooler.

That's not your tranny getting hot, it is air being heated by your exhaust, which runs right next to your tranny on the passengers side. And since the air is nice and hot, it is riseing to the easiest path which is straigh up into your tranny tunnel, and since your shifter boots has a rip in it, it comes in the car and heats your shifter to.

Just order a new outer shifter boot (it is actually threw rubber boots) from mazdatrix.com it's like 45 dollars, and it makes your car ALOT quiter.

also check on the heat sheilds, and check if the cat is clogged or something getting ridiculously hot.
