Help! My power just cuts off under high load at about 3 to 4 k rpm. This just when I used to get the rush from the rotary power. Any ideas where to start looking? Tried fuel filter/plugs/airfilter/and airflow sensor seems to move normally. And also what does premixing TCW-3 do for the rotary engine/do you keep the normal oil system working if you pre mix?

87RX7NA 01-08-2003 11:19 PM

Does it just cut off for a second, then kick back in? In cold weather?

'79rx7 01-08-2003 11:27 PM

sounds the secondary fuel injectors

87RX7NA 01-08-2003 11:29 PM

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Mine hesitates (more often in the cold weather), but doesn't completely cut out. Not sure how to fix it, but it's not a big enough deal to me.

'79rx7 01-08-2003 11:44 PM

all you need to do is pull out the secondary injectors and send them to rc engineering, but to do it right i'd pull all four, that way you wouldn't have to worry about the primaries starting to leak, plus you would regain the lost power.

87RX7NA 01-08-2003 11:47 PM

Where is rc engineering located? And I haven't noticed a loss of power, just a slight hesitation at exactly 3800. Ok, how did this end up being my question? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

critter 01-09-2003 05:33 AM

Temp doesn't matter and it completly dies for several seconds. Any idea how difficult it is (expensive) to have the injectors reengineered or replaced? Is this a do it my self possibility? The injectors do some times leak after it is shut down causing the common flooding problem. If I rev it just before I shut it down this seems to help the flooding, but if I forget it will flood about 1 out of every 20 times.

ok, mine does the EXACT SAME THING....hesitates, but kicks right back in, instantly...because the power comes back instantly, I haven't worried much about it

some folks have told me to reground my ecu, but I don't know if that's for hesitation, or loss of power at certain rpm, with no return of power after that....anyone care to clarify?

87RX7NA 01-09-2003 09:20 AM

Not sure about the ECU thing, but critter, send them off to be either fixed or replaced. That should fix it.

j9fd3s 01-09-2003 11:09 AM

there is a ground on top of the engine that has to handle all of the current and if the ground is loose or corroded it will make the hesitation worse

mike

you have to remove the intake to get to it, right?

j9fd3s 01-09-2003 01:44 PM

um maybe. if you have a u joint and an extension you should be able to get it

mike

Baldy 01-09-2003 01:53 PM

you wouldn't happen to have a pic, would you? someone posted a pic for this similar topic a while back, but I'm not sure if it was for the same ground that you speak of

j9fd3s 01-09-2003 01:57 PM

hmm i dont have a pic but its the rearmost bolt for the emissions rail/rats nest

mike

Baldy 01-09-2003 03:24 PM

oh....I'll see if I can identify that

j9fd3s 01-09-2003 04:29 PM

you should be able to see it, theres about 3 wires going to it, 12mm head on the rear rotor housing

looks like you're getting a brand new injector free https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

BigTurbo74 01-09-2003 10:07 PM

do they really do it...? i mean i would expect it but damn i'm sick of not even havin a damn beater to get around....! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/angry.png

I just sent mine off to RC Engineering, on monday, called today thursday, and they said they were done and that they would be back to me by friday, total is around $130 for all four, with shipping.

Give me a minute mines all apart i will go take a picture of that ground wire, but my car is a '79 so there are a few extra wires, but everything else is the same as yours

'79rx7 01-09-2003 10:26 PM

here is a picture of the bolt and ground wire

'79rx7 01-09-2003 10:27 PM

closer view

1Revvin7 01-09-2003 10:32 PM

yes, sounds like u have bad grounds. Replace them with thicker wires and make sure contact surface is bare, no paint etc. Injectors are $25 a pop at Rc, i had mine done there and i got a pair there right now.. Anyone who is having a hesitation @ 3800 rpms its either the grounds or the secondary injectors.

rxheaven86 01-10-2003 01:25 PM

that's not totally true... yes grounds can be a problem and yes secondarys can be a problem, but i had the same problem with my rx before i re did my exhaust... if the car still has a stock exhaust or stock cats on the car then it is possible that one of the pre cats or main cats is not free flowing enough and trust me 5 out of 10 times this is the problem when you have a 3800 rpm hesitation. when mine happened i replaced the tps because that's what the first thing that read wrong was and then i fixed all the grounds and that wasn't it... all my injectors were brand new on a new motor, and sure enough i put a cat back on the car, and we cleaned out the stock cats and the car was good then about 2 days later i put the random tech cat on there that i have and the car was ******* running great. just thought you guys would like to know because noone mentioned exhaust issues in the thread, and that's what it sounds like to me

j9fd3s 01-10-2003 01:28 PM

well its possible it is exhaust, but there is a bulliten on the ground

mike

87RX7NA 01-10-2003 01:28 PM

Hmmm...Never heard that. Always good to have a new perspective though. Don't think that's my problem. My cats are hollow. Speaking of which, I still need to make that straight pipe to put on my car...

Baldy 01-10-2003 03:47 PM

well, soon I'll be replacing some exhaust, so I'll see how that works

joe2dmax 02-12-2003 10:52 AM

mine feels like its gonna die when i am drifting it around 25-30 mph, i thought i didnt have enough gas and when my car goes sideways, it doesnt get enough fuel.

so what do you guys think. i rev my car during drifting around 4-6k.

so it could be the ground, injectors or the cats...

up&coming 09-18-2003 06:34 PM

I was just going over this post and sounds a lot like what's going on with my rex. Im going to try the grounding solution to see if that work.

My motor sputters when its at idle. After it warms up it starts to smoke around the exhaust manifold. now this is a j-spec motor that's bin sitting dry for 2 years im just getting a chance to use it and im getting this. I haven't had the car on the road yet so see how it will power the car. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif
