i just bought an 87 rx7 and i would not evne think about turning over so i played with it and found out that the previous owner decided he wanted to cut the mass air flow sensor out so i reconnected the maf and tried to start it it started to turn then the bran new battery died so i hooked it up to my jeep and tryed again this time it started to turn like fifty more turns of the key and it finally started...it hit a bout 1000rpms and dies so i started it again and mashed on the gas and i could keep it running but when i took my foot of the gas it died and now it wont even do that.... it starts hits a 1000 then dies does any one have any ideas??? this is my first rotory engine and i would be greatly thankful

I would check to see if the previous owner had cut anything else such as wires or vacuum lines.

Was the MAF wiring cut or was the unit just not installed? Make sure the wires are connected correctly...a malfunctioning MAF will definately make the car not run...

..also, as mentioned, see what else the previous owner did in the engine bay. Make sure the car isn't flooding out either with all the constant cranking...

Once its flooded..its harder to get to restart..

I'd check that little air nipple on the intake pipe. If that tube is not connected, the car will do what you're describing. It's just before the throttle body on the black plastic.

Actually, just look at the engine and see if there's any open vacuum points.

and do me a big favor, smash the previous owner in the face with a brick. there was absoluetly no reason to cut maf wires.

ok, first off welcome to the board and RX-7s.

2nd- please dont use one long sentence in the future, it

makes it very hard to understand what your saying, proof

read it before you hit enter as well.

check: the connection to the AFM, check the plastic intake

tube to the throttle body is tight and no cracks in it, there cant

be any break in it at all.

then I would play with the TPS a bit, giving it 1/4 turns at a time and see

if it makes any difference
