I got another sev, finally. A grey s4, 2.5" straight exhaust from turbo, fcd. I picked it up as a rolling body with the engine out. The reason the engine was out, turbo was smoking. So the guy took the engine to change the turbo. I picked it up and he included 2 turbos, the s4(smoking) and a s5(no manifold, unknown condition).
So do I recondition the s4 turbo, or, get a s5 manifold and use the s5 turbo? The hot side of the s4 turbo was sooty, the s5 hotside is like in the pic, is it supposed to be like that? Does it look good to use? http://img228.echo.cx/img228/8030/compari5ll.jpg http://img228.echo.cx/img228/7626/s50vw.jpg Cheers guys https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png |
I would check to see which one has the least amount of shaft play and go from there. I have an s5 mani if you are interested.

ok yeah sure, ship to new zealand? lol https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png
are those black specks in the exhaust anything bad, what causes that? |
Black specs could be something - it could be nothing.
Do you know how long it was sitting around? It could be rust or dirt? I would worry about shaft play and if the wheels are in good shape... -Ted |
If they both have no shaft end play & very little side play, go with the S5.
Also, here is your golden opportunity to port the waste gate. |
