Ok, so today i jumped in the car and started it up. Let it warm up a couple minutes and pulled it out of the driveway. Then went to step on the pedal. AHHHHH foot went all the way down to the floor. It did stop but my foot was solid on the floor.

Now i has a sneaking suspition that this is related to the leaking ABS unit i has and it is sucking in some ari and thats why the pedal is like this.

Im thinking i will go and bleed the hole system tomarrow, but i want to go non-ABS since the new pump costs $2400 or something stupid like that.

But my problem is this, im not sure how to go NON-ABS. I did a search that showed up one good result, but it was a veig "how to" post. And i was not able to gather much from it. And it seemed to be un-nessary in alot of the items that were used.

Can anyone post up how they went non-ABS, or mabe a write up of how to do the hole thing. Cause i want to get this done soon so i dont end up nose first into someones bumper:P

Thanks

Tim

OK, so i did a search on some "other" forums and found out some things that i did not want to hear.

I will need a brake proportioning valve. Im not loking this already.

Would i be able to get a non-abs unit from another RX7 and bolt it right up?

You need the brake lines (hard) from a Non-ABS car. MAzdatrix(?) also makes a kit with short brake lines that go in place of the ABS unit

either you have a massive hydraulic leak (you are loosing hydrualic pressure externally) which is indicated by no fluid left in teh reservior. Or your Master Cylinder is bypassing internally where the seals have let go and fluid is going around your piston.

You do not need new proportioning valve. ABS and NON ABS cars have the same part number for their proportioning valve. This lead me to believe they are the same thing. I've gone through all of this. Perhaps you should physically identify the leak and see where it is dripping before coming to all these conclusions

RX7_TT 02-08-2005 03:10 AM

Not jumping to any conclusions. The ABS unit is leaking.

Im assuming it is taking in air instead of letting out fluid. So i want to replace it but the price of that is to high. So i ordered a Mazdatrix ABS-deletion kit. Hope it gets here soon :P

brakes are over rated, you'll stop eventualy when you run into something https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png let us know how easy it turns out to be, i may be able to get another 7 with a brand new motor not even installed yet, and if its simple enough i may want to do it to avoid the hassle

RX7_TT 02-08-2005 03:32 AM

Will do.

Ill try to make a DIY thing with it. But i imagine it is VERY simple. They maxdatrix site said that it will take a couple of days before i recieve it, but i hope it gets here soon. This is the first thing i have ever ordered online :P

Beleave me, you do. RX7's are WAY to much fun to care about the gas price and all that. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

i did the mazdatrix ABS-Delete thing with my ABS hardlines. It's just a T-Block and a Rubber brake line...honestly the part that took the longest was unbolting the stupid abs pump from under the hood...and tryign to not get brake fluid in a recent gash i had.

Just be careful with brake lines...yours are almost 18 years old so "handle with care" they bend and snap easily if youre not careful.

be sure to contain the leaking brake fluid as well, it will eat the paint right off the car

RX7_TT 02-09-2005 12:29 AM

Well i re-bleed the brakes today. Did it twice actualy.

The previous owner said that he replaced the master just before i bought the car. Adn it seems that he did not get the brakes bleed properly. As there was ALOT of air in the lines and such. When i bleed the ABS pump there was ALOT!!!!! of air in there.

should show him pics of my bare underhood area lol.

i had my master cylinder and ABS pump both umm "go out with a bang". First the ABS unit exploded brake fluid all over the passenger fenderwell...stripping all the paint on that side, then the master went out spilling all the brake fluid on the drivers side stripping that fenderwell. it sorta sucked.

for some reason the frame rail that got it's paint stripped off by the brake fluid from the leaking abs isn't rusting... It just sits there uncorroded without paint or anything.

RX7_TT 02-09-2005 02:04 PM

OK, so this morning i hoped in the car and the brake seemed to not be as firm as last night when i bleed the brakes. I mean its WAY better than it was before when it had loads of air in the system. But its still not perfect. :P

What should i do??
