Since i have my UIM and LIM off, i can defenately reach the exhaust mani easily, so my question is this, can i remove the difusers by taking off the mani??? are they reachable that way? and can i remove them? the engine is fully assembled and all(well bare block in the engine bay) the car is an 86 n/a 5speed

TIA

You have to GRIND them out. NOT an easy task. They are HARDED STEEL.

and it would be hard to keep the shavings out of the motore`

the easiest way is to drill out the hardened steel pin while the motor is disasembled. Why would you want to remove them anyway unless it's ported, you'll lose your proper port velocity and it won't run right or any better, if it's ported though replace them with turbo sleeves and port it till the port and sleeves are flush. then press new pins back in it

Here is a link to the Mazdatrix faq on the exhaust diffusers, kind of interesting.

thanks all, i wont be doing it in that case, my mototr will not be dissassembled, so its not worth it, nor is the gain significant, thanks again

you could do some other things while you have it all bare though, you can clean up your intake parts and port match them, it's possible to even port match the LIM to the motor while it's assembled you just have to put something down the ports on the motor that will plug it up nicely so none of the filings get into the motor, and use something like a shop vac to suck them all off after it's done... and don't forget to remove what you used to plug them https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png it seems pretty common for the LIM ports to be poorly matched to the motor's intake ports... and it's usually the LIM that is smaller so you won't have to grind much on the motor. some 'free' hp can be had there.

kool, thanks for the advice, but my manis look like they are matched, the gasket is good on both, i dont know https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif
