i'm having some major problems with my car, if anyone can help i would really appreciate it.

i was driving along yesterday afternoon and go to make a turn at an intersection. i coast through the turn and hit the gas in second gear. the second i hit the gas there is a loud clunk from the back of the car and it starts hesitating and backfiring. There is no power at all, it feels like i am trying to go 20 mph in 5th gear. as soon as i let of the gas the car stalls. i pulled over and tried to start it. the car would start, idle really rough and slow for a few seconds then stall. i managed to get it home but the engine sounded horrible and the throttle response was extremely slow. I could put the gas to the floor in neutral and it would take a solid 5 seconds to get up to 5000 rpm. one last thing, when i was driving it home it didn't smoke or anything so i don't think its a blown seal, just ran really rough and was extremely slow. i tried to start it this afternoon and it wouldn't go. i think its flooded. if anyone can give me any ideas it would be a great help.

DO a compression test, you have all the indications of busting an APEX SEAL.

You could just swap it out with a used or "j-spec" motor. Rebuild makes more sense if you can afford it. You never know how much life you have left in a used motor. If you rebuild it, you know what to expect.

my mom's 86 NA was rebuilt over 3 yrs ago and since then it has survived just fine, still running strong. cost: $3000

my 87 TII was rebuilt last summer with a port, polish, new exhaust manifold, 3mm seals. cost: $5500

prices depend on the engine type, what all is still good in the engine (rotors, housings, etc). i would suggest rebuilding. you start fresh and you know what you have. you're then in control of the destiny of your engine. change the oil every 3K miles, watch the temps, break it in good, and you should have one solid running engine for another 60K+ miles.

prices also depend on whether or not you pull the engine yourself and order one or have the whole thing done by a ROTARY mechanic. if this isn't your daily driver, you could always just do it youself and learn something about you car. that will come in handy in the long run.
